Airports for GND in SOLO mode

Postby jmwilton » Tue Feb 06, 2018 7:19 pm

I have been trying to find airports that have the required data to work in SOLO and enable the GND option.

Can someone point me to specific airport files and their download location that should work in this mode?
US would be great but anywhere in the world is fine.

Thanks.

KSFO and KATL have the option to play GND in solo play.

Technically, what you need is a "ground network" and "parking positions" in the .dat file for your airport (and to set up the solo system and the runways with acceptable ACFT types for the location & scenario).

If you are skilled with grep, etc. you can easily look for lines starting with 1200, 1201 or 1202 for GND net's in the data, and with 1300 for PKG pos's. In any case note that these abstract (non-scenic) features in the default data are very poorly covered. Even those you will find will contain many errors, messed up geometry or names, and many missing TWYs. Not to mention that PKG may then be missing, or contain only a couple of correctly specified positions.

Instead, I suggest you look for newer stuff on the gateway, and see resources/apt/Notice and the FAQ to use your downloaded file. I know of this filtering interface which can help, esp. the "GND network" filter: x-plane.cleverest.eu
I assume it is querying the latest online data available.

If no luck with any desired airports, open up WED and plot the TWYs and share ;-)

Thanks for the two replies.
KSFO and KATL will be enough to get me going.
Not ready to take on WED, yet.

If you want to add Airports for GND in Solo mode, you need to add the ground network of the airport.

Getting the ground network
1. Go to https://gateway.x-plane.com/airports/page
2. Search the airport of you want to play as GND.
3. Download the scenery.
4. Expand the .zip file.
5. Open the folder
6. Open a folder named: Earth nav data

Finding the folder to place the ground network file in
7. Open your ATC-pie folder
8. Open the folder named “CONFIG”
9. Open the folder named “ad” (“ad” stands for airport data)

Moving to the files
10. In the “Earth nav data folder”, move the apt.dat file to the “ad” folder.
11. Rename the apt.dat file to ICAO.dat, where ICAO is the ICAO code of the airport your planning to play as ground.
