Postby Fahim Dalvi » Fri Dec 14, 2007 7:14 pm

this is specially for the moderators

Code: Select all
<form method="get" action="http://www.google.com/search">

<div style="border:1px solid black;padding:4px;width:10em;">
<table border="0" cellpadding="0">
<tr><td>
<input type="text"   name="q" size="25"
 maxlength="255" value="" />
<input type="submit" value="Google Search" /></td></tr>
<tr>
<td align="left" style="font-size:75%">
<input type="checkbox"  name="sitesearch"
 value="flightgear.org/forums" checked /> only search flightgear forums<br />
</td></tr></table>
</div>

if they use this on the page, many repeat posts can be avoided

Actually I think Curt is the only one with access to the templates that would be needed in order to add a Google search. Just out of curiosity, though, why would a Google search be an improvement over the PHPbb search function?

I think to change from PHPbb to smf, simplemachines, forum, if your an admin you can customize it to anything you want, easily. Not trying to advertise here or anything, its just that one of my friends has his own forum and he's using smf for like more that 2 years I think now.

Do you know PHPbb3 is released the day before yesterday?
It's the new standard forum software. The follow up of PHPbb2 what we're now using.

I know I'm resurrecting a dead post, but new-at-flying does have a point.

This forum does have its shortfalls, such as the lack of a good search function, the fact that you have to wait 5 minutes between each search, and the fact that you have to wait 5 minutes between each post. But I don't know if we want to move over to a new forum altogether...

Yey! Someone agrees with me, but Curt doesn't post here anymore, so I think he is gone for another good while. And you can convert all the posts and topics from this to the smf forum if he's planning to switch.

Yes I am agreeing with you on the fact that the forums needs a little work, but I disagree on the fact that we should move it altogether. Perhaps the gist of my original post wasn't clear; we should be complaining to the phhpbb forum guys, not Curt.
