Nav.dat updates

Postby SurferTim » Thu Nov 07, 2019 2:02 pm

Where would a forum member post new topics concerning updates to nav.dat?

Probably the scenery development subforum if the new topic will be related to new scenery and/or navigation aids, or perhaps the flying support subforum if it instead will be related to for example using a newer nav.dat file with while flying (for example to work better with the VATSIM community).

tl;dr: It depends...

Thanks. I think scenery may be best for what I have.

It appears some airport scenery has been updated, but the nav.dat stuff wasn't changed.

Edit: I am not modifying the nav.dat file. I am using the personal scenery folder as wkitty42 suggested.
I plan on compressing them into a zip file.

This might help:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=30734

So you can just upload the NavData folder to some git host and share it that way :)

Don't know if this works for fixes or vors; I don't think it does so that might actually be a useful extension!

That is an interesting idea. I'll have to play with it. I suppose a "git pull" would update the folder if you used "git clone" to download the folder. Is that correct?

When was the last update to nav.dat?
How is the update info gathered?
How does the FG program update that file?

Just checked my nav.dat file. 106MB
Just checked earthnav.dat from X-Plane. 330MB

I tried using it, but something went wrong. Now I'm back to the "old" FG version of nav.dat.

Please respond in Development -> Scenery.
