Getting Radar Data

Postby NoNamePilot » Mon Oct 14, 2019 9:39 am

Hi,

We are planning a make simple radar test simulation. So, I need radar data from my plane?
Can I get radar data from FlightGear or is there any topic about how FG create radar display ? have not seen any post about related with that.

Thanks

Not sure what you mean - maybe the following may help you:

Hi,

As you know, we can get data (alt, lat or etc..) of any aircraft via UDP protocol. In multiplayer mode, we can see other aircraft in radar, how can get position of these aircraft's in my radar? Can FlightGear supply these kind datas ?

Thanks

Still - I do not understand what you mean! Do you have any knowledge of programming?

e.g. I already am not sure what exactly you call FlightGear, Multiplayer mode, etc. etc. That are all features used by different programs. i.e. if you want to get data out of different programs you need to design an interface between different programs that have the data you look for.
e.g. in "FlightGear" there are all data you need - FOR EACH MODEL ACTIVE! Open e.g. any FG-model and look into "Debug -> Internal Properties", there you find all data needed for each unique model in all unique situations.

And I gave you some examples of how that is done in other programs (used together with FlighGear) - there are many more programs doing similar things (e.g. MP, OpenRadar, etc.). So I am not sure what you are looking for - you have to define:
- Your needs
- where are those data available/generated
--then program an interface between the source of the data to your new program!
(Or use the radar-applications already available - there you may get an idea how those programmers did it!)

Be aware: That always is a very complex cooperation of many programs/programmers!

Hi @NoNamePilot

OpenRadar is the name of an ATC program for flightgear, and this subforum is for that program.

As far as an in-aircraft radar, yes this is quite possible. See FlightGear's F-14, F-15, F-16, Saab Viggen, M2000, or my MiG-21 for the most advanced examples, which are still quite basic.

In multiplayer, every aircraft within your visibility range (default 100 nautical miles) shows up in FlightGear's property tree, and you can pull lat/lon/altitude from there. You then need to do your math on it, and if you'd like to display it in-sim, you need to write it to your screen using canvas.
