Setting up Openradar Mac

Postby KIWI34 » Sun Oct 04, 2015 1:02 pm

So i realised my version of open radar is quite old and doesn't have the features of the standard one that most ATC's use.
When i download the latest stable release, i struggle to get it going. The main problem is configuring it, when it asks for orcam , flight plan server i can't continue as the "check settings" says i have to configure the settings.
I can't type in an airport or code and download scenery till i configure it.....
Any ideas or help would be much appreciated

cheers

That error happens because OpenRadar tries to connect to the servers you specify - if it isn't able to do it, it asks you to "verify your settings".

These are the settings I use:
  • FGCom Mode: leave the defaults
  • FG Multiplayer: use a multiplayer server that is not down at the moment (e.g. mpserver04.flightgear.org), server port: 5000, client port: 5001 (make sure no other applications are using the same port)
  • METAR URL: leave the default
  • Flightplan exchange: use http://h2281805.stratoserver.net/FgFpServer/; put a random username/password as they are not checked
  • Flightplan download: use http://flightgear-atc.alwaysdata.net/dev2014_01_13.php5
  • ORCAM: disable all checkboxes on that page for now. Once OpenRadar is working, follow the instructions on the wiki if you want to use it.

cheers, i think the problem is open radar doesn't have a folder, but is just an open radar.jar file on its own, does anyone have a folder for the whole thing?

That explains a lot - download the latest version from the official site.

The JAR file alone, as stated on the download page, is only for those who need to update their existing OR version to the most recent one. Since you're performing a new installation, you will need to get the ZIP file and uncompress it.

i'm trying to understand this... are you saying that one cannot just pull the repo and get started? they have to do more than that??
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

For such applications, that can be used for a wide range of systems and usage, you need to tell the system in which environment you want to work. That is why people put a lot of effort into describing how to setup and operate. See primarily http://wiki.flightgear.org/OpenRadarGuide

see in that especially the Prerequisites (under this is also how/where to download and install OR)
see also "setup" i.e. how to tell OR your unique wishes /environment
you also should read the description what to do - especially when you also want to cooperate with other ATCs near you.

and you may see in the movies on http://www.emmerich-j.de/EDDF/Films/Films.html on how it may be used.
