New compile guide on wiki.flightgear.org

Postby daemonburrito » Mon May 12, 2014 12:42 am

I have written a draft of a revisited compile guide.

The old one is a bit out of date. The draft introduces CMake (for osg, simgear, and flightgear), the ccmake gui, using "out-of-source" builds, a custom prefix, and avoids using root.

I think that the end result is a pretty typical dev installation, but I wanted to run it by others before I replace the old one.

If anyone finds something that needs to change, reply here or on the wiki. The draft is on my user page.

thanks for doing this, really appreciated - you mentioned "root" and "export", is it Linux specific currently ? If so, what about getting it more platform-independent by teaming up with some windows folks ?
Also, have you tried the superbuild, too ?
I understand that the superbuild seems more straightforward for newcomers ?

I didn't know about the superbuild... that is a really good idea, with what CMake can do.

It is the Linux compile guide that I want to update. Speaking of CMake, it looks like what I wrote for the new individual flightgear/simgear compile steps is pretty much exactly what the superbuild cmake does. I also wish that more people knew about the ccmake GUI.
