FG approach supporting the ARINC-661 standard

Canvas is FlightGear's new fully scriptable 2D drawing system that will allow you to easily create new instruments, HUDs and even GUI dialogs and custom GUI widgets, without having to write C++ code and without having to rebuild FlightGear.

I think that in this case it's because they wanted to use real avionics equipment, which often use an ARINC 429 bus to connect.

The project I wrote about has just been Open Sourced under GPL V2. It is available here: http://j661.sourceforge.net/. I will upload more documentation in the coming days, but the source code and minimal documentation are already available.

Hi,

thanks for the good news, I already talked to GeorgeP - and we are taking a look at the code in the SVN repository now.
Things are looking really promising now that you could open source your work!
Meanwhile, we have also worked a bit and created a roadmap for interfacing things with FlightGear, evaluating various different options.

If you could spare the time at some point, we would definitely appreciate your feedback regarding the planned FlightGear integration approach.
Please don't send support requests by PM, instead post your questions on the forum so that all users can contribute and benefit
Thanks & all the best,
Hooray

No problem! I added some more documentation (still a lot missing), uploaded ready-to-use zip files for the project, and added config and sample directories. It should help you a little ;) Next will be JUnit tests, and more documentation and examples.
