Board index FlightGear Development Canvas

kuifje09's FGPlot Development

Canvas is FlightGear's new fully scriptable 2D drawing system that will allow you to easily create new instruments, HUDs and even GUI dialogs and custom GUI widgets, without having to write C++ code and without having to rebuild FlightGear.

It was recently mentioned on the devel list that we somehow missed getting this committed to fgdata during the 2.12 release cycle but obviously this could be a really useful tool in FG - so we should reconsider this for 3.0 - it should be safe to commit even during the code freeze, because it doesn't touch anything existing, and it's stricly opt-in - and even if the XML dialog were invalid, it would not affect other dialogs.

Hello fgplot users/developers.

I recently got some messages about the plotting functionality and did it try for myself.
Then I was very surprised it did not work for me , as for others...

Not sure about why, I now use the flightgear distributed with ubuntu. version 2.4.0 simgear 2.4.0. and openscene 3.0.1
( unfortunately I lost my previous versions.. but should be no problem , I still had a tar with the last updates )

I moved in my files and added fgplot in the equipment.
Now fgplot starts, but defaults are not set, toggle buttons lost their functon, never a line is plotted.
the fgplot window is always transparent...

What change has been made to the system and who has time and courage to fix it with me or point to the place whre I can read about the changes ? Or is it just the flightgear distribution ?

I am searching on, but if you have an idea, let me know.
for example, fgplot is using /canvas/by-index/texture... and that item is complete gone ...? where is it now?
That might be 1 of the problems

Canvas (the 2D rendering framework that fgplot uses) wasn't available when 2.4 was released. In fact, it wasn't until 2.8 that a first version ended up in FlightGear. So the solution to your problem is to get a more recent version, preferably 2.12.

for the record, we really need to get this reviewed/fixed and committed in the 3.2 release cycle - I ended up using an outdated version of fgplot when I came up with the "MapStructure Debugger" dialog, and looking at the latest code, this could have saved me quite a bit of redundant work.. I just wasn't aware of where to find it :?

I have given kuifje09 access to the canvas team clone, so that we can get fgplot committed to a branch there and work on reviewing/updating things, to hopefully commit things back to fgdata within a few weeks.
