Blurring and Lights

Postby Rach » Tue Jan 31, 2012 3:20 pm

Hi! First, big thanks for 2.6, especially the new "Instant Replay"-function is amazing!
Two things catched my eye, but i´m not sure if these appear on your machines, too (i´ve an ATI-Card):
Firstly: The Scenery farer away becomes blurred:

Secondly: This is very mysterious; When it´s night, I can´t see any lights (neither the instruments in the cockpit, nor the runway lights), but when i change the view, then sometimes the lights appear. Because i´m using an ATI card, i had to turn off the "Use Point sprites for runway lights"-option in the "Rendering options" window, to see the runway-lighting (in FG 2.4 also). If i switch it on, i can´t see the runway-lighting, but in exchange the cockpit and other lights are visible normally. But it becomes more mysterious :D This seems just to happen between the following clocktimes seen on the screens:

Before 23:00, everything works fine:

After 23:00, just the stars are visible, no other lights:

The same ~5'30 hours later:

Around 5:00, everything works fine again:

In 2.4 everything works normally despite of switched-off point-sprites.
My OS is Windows 7.

I hope this helps to find the cause  Cheers,

Blurring is caused by low anisotropic filter settings. It used to be controled by the --texture-filtering= flag. Try to set it higher in the launcher, or in your gpu control pannel.

The blurring-issue is fixed now, thank you! For AMD-Cards, it seems, that it can´t be changed in the FGRun option for texture filtering, so you have to do it in the graphics-driver.

The night issue is probably related to this bug: http://code.google.com/p/flightgear-bug ... ail?id=591
