3.7 weather

Postby someguy » Fri Oct 30, 2015 12:39 am

I just downloaded 3.7 and grabbed some screenies of the advanced-weather thunderstorm preset. Wow! Amazing!

I'm delighted (pun not intended) how lightning illuminates the surrounding clouds from below. I assume it's more of Wizard Thorsten's conjuring tricks. Combine that and some turbulence with the new Cessna's rain streaking and the simulation experience is fairly intense. Well done, team.

Its not gonna get intense until there is some thunder, rain splash and turbulence sounds. I find it strange that this is not been implemented yet! Sorry, but how hard is it?

I think it's been discussed a couple of times.

Glad to hear it :-)

Currently, there is no ambient sound for FG-it all depends on the aircraft and the aircraft developer. So until ambient sound is made--and I'm not sure how complex that may be--thunder, rain, and turbulence sounds are all dependent on the aircraft maker.

Logicaly there should be a general pakage in FGData for those aircraft without implementing it and a way to overide the general with aircraft specific sound packages!

C172p is a caft under heavy development and great progress. And the default aircraft?

I think its time to stick our heads together and fix this ASAP as it would improve the overall experience ALOT!

But I don't understand why it is not done, is it because it is too hard?

No idea. I am not a core developer.

It's an all volunteer "Air Force" (if you will permit) creating this simulator and it's just never gotten on to anyone's to do list, I suppose,

But I understand that the finest weather programmer in the lot has taken an interest and we need only patience and respect.

All respect and honour to the one(s) implementing this ;)

"Lightning hits" will also be supercool! Even its rare i guess!

These sound effects should indeed be programmed by the aircraft developers for each individual aircraft, as it has been pointed out so many times in the past: a thunder will not sound the same when you are inside an airliner at high speeds and when you are in a single propeller aircraft at 60 knots. Nor will wind, nor rain, etc. There is no one-size-fits-all here, and therefore it's better that the aircraft developers take care of that in relation to the aircraft they are working with. For instance, we are implementing all these in the c172p right now.

True, but that many aircraft will have many similarities when it comes to sound so reproducing everything is a big load impact on fgdata/fgaddon and it will be more realistic that aircraft developers can access sounds in a simple way. And if not we can make a standard for every aircraft so no aircraft will be without those effect. As an overall realism progress.
But indeed, those aircraft that comes with its own specialised package for each aircraft will be most realistic. But it is unrealistic to think every aircraft developer has the resources and time to find all this in open source license.

That is very nice.. Really looking forward to test the results :)

Why unrealistic? That's exactly what we are doing with the c172p.

Unrealistic to expect every aircraft developer out there to make the effort that you guys do., not the implementation itself. And what about all the aircraft that are not under active development. They will al be without those effects!
