Can't see any clouds

Postby Delta5142 » Tue Jul 20, 2021 9:24 pm

Hello FG users and devs,
I've stumbled upon a problem for myself in FG 2020.3.9. I can't see any clouds. For example, when I click advanced weather modelling and click thunderstorm, I see the precipitation and the visibility goes down, however the large storm clouds don't show up in the sky. same goes for the Manual Imput, If I select an overcast layer, it casts a large black layer at that altitude. I have 3d clouds enabled, Precipitation on, and Particles on.

Some like in this video ?

Try to disable DDS disk cache, restart FG and test again.

Hmmm, I don't think that's the error. My DDS disk cache was never on, and I can't see clouds in the distance at all.

"in the distance"??? can you provide a picture, please?
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Sorry for the late post. I was away from my computer for a bit and wasn't able to take screenshot's of FG.

This is my perspective. I launch Flightgear with Advanced Weather on and click Thunderstorm as my weather scenario. This is what it looks like:

I can see precipitation in the distance and see the visibility going down, However there are no clouds. This happens even in Basic Weather in manual config mode. If I select an overcast layer, It doesn't show anything.

Here are my rendering settings:

ALS on (I tried it with and without)
3d clouds enabled
Precipitation on
Dust and Particles on
Clouds shader to max

Thanks,
Delta

Thanks for the report.

Does this happen only when selecting overcast or generally with every type of cloud layer (or in Advanced Weather with every type of weather, i.e. High Pressure Region, Warm sector etc.)?

Also, could you please provide some information about your system, especially your graphics card (but better all components)?

Does it work with any different versions of FG?

Try to fly into upper edge of the dark precipitation zone. If clouds will appear, then You probably have problem with DDS cache.

There is a slider in the 'Advanced Graphics Options' dialog called 'Cloud density'.
I hope its not set to 0.0.

Woodstokk: Thanks It works now. Before, I had messed around with the Cloud Density slider, but nothing would change. However, now, I tried putting the slider to around medium and reloaded the weather in the "Weather Menu". Now everything popped up.

Thanks V12, D-cho, wkitty and Woodstokk for your help!
