Screenshot Challenge: Details

Postby Thorsten » Mon Oct 03, 2011 11:57 am

There are many models of aircraft or airports where some work is done not because it's needed, but simply for the joy of it. A highly detailed building at the back of an airport which nobody looking down from a departing aircraft will ever notice. Details on the landing gear or on the engine block which need zooming in from an external view to see properly. A fun inscription on an aircraft interior texture.

Show your best screenshots of the hidden details in the Flightgear world!

The challenge will run till Friday Oct. 14 (sorry, due to international travel I've been late in finishing the last one, so don't let's rush this one).

Is there any airport feature so lovingly useless as the NASA centrifuge at Moffett Field?

Image

Inside, the centrifuge whirls around, torturing wannabee astronauts 24/7:

'hope you're enjoying your visit in Japan! (...I think you said Japan in a previous post?)

Anywho, here's my submissions:

Image
A quick climb right beside the cockpit, right after pushback -the Pilot abandoned his seat to reach his pen on the floor, apparently...
(Pushback is visible on the bottom right!)

Image
Takeoff of the B1 bomber. Notice the detailed gear frames.

Image
The picture above essentially, but from a different angle and zoomed into the cockpit. If only the pilot could wave...

Image
The trailing edge of the wings are creating vapor because of the high speed right after takeoff. You rarely notice the particles if you're flying in the cockpit all the time.

Look for "B-BIRD" "N127KY" or "AVA0004" -that's me.

Despite having over 1700 posts here, I am not even close to being the most skilled guy here... I'm just words and bad drawing, not experience. :P

Nice.
-and yeah, I recognize it. From the cockpit and RIO seats on the F14?

(and I never got why it said "French soup"...)

This is a sign at Alcatraz, though you have to be flying dangerously low to read it. Click on image to see full size:
