Nah, I think I'll stick to runway 22 with crosswinds :) but now now the only problem is the lag at KDCA. I've never experienced such lag in any other airport in flightgear! Is there a particular scenery object creating the lag, I don't mid there just being the airport, the land and the river... :(

I had no lag at all when flying, despite having only an average processor...
(good luck, if you're still planning to make a submission!)
Look for "B-BIRD" "N127KY" or "AVA0004" -that's me.

I finally got round to making a video of this approach. After many attempts this is probably the best I got.

It's tricky because if you come in over the river too high, then you pick up speed descending towards the bridge and end up going too far on the final turn. I found myself too far to the left of the runway many times.

Best watched in fullscreen HD to see the new dds textures better.

Very nice!!!

Can you remind me where to find the new textures, I thought I had installed them but I think I have the wrong ones, the bridge is not positonned correctly in mine.

Beautiful landing! ...I personally thought your angle of attack was a bit high for the landing, but otherwise, it seemed great!
Nice job!

Yeah, I noticed Statto's landclass download is not packaged correctly. If you put the contents directly into data/Scenery/Terrain they will be in the wrong place. You need to put them into data/Scenery/Terrain/w080n30/ so that they will be in the right folder level.

Thanks for the comments, I had many frustrating attempts to get a reasonable looking landing. My hat is off to anyone who can do runway 22. :D

It was. I was sinking too fast at that stage and had to fire up the engines a bit to keep from landing short.

Yeah, the folder needs to go in the subfolder.

Actually, the updated scenery probably makes the river visual more difficult:

http://mapserver.flightgear.org/map/?lo ... FFTTTFTFFF
(click on cs_test and then vmap0 to compare).

The vmap0 has Runway 19 jutting out into the water. Therefore you can just sort of fly down the river and make a shallow turn to final... whereas the cs_test custom scenery "forces" the river further north (that is why the bridge is so out of position on the films with the old scenery) and forces you to make a sharper turn for final.

I've flown on commercial planes doing that approach several times in real life, it's a lot of fun but it's also rather unnerving, there have been times where I've thought we're waaay too high over Rosslyn or we weren't at the right angle but all the pilots have hit the numbers :)

Also worked a job where I either took the metro or drove right past the airport every morning and afternoon, that was a lot of fun as well.

I dowloaded your scenery, which is great by the way, now the Washington monument is in a park as it should be, but the bridge disappeared.

On the positive side there aren't any buildings in the river now. :D

Around 1969, I went sailing from the marina just off the end of the runway at DCA. You had to time your departure/arrival carefully, to avoid the jetwash of airliners on short final. Dunno if that marina is still there. Back then, the river was so polluted you could nearly walk across it without a boat.

Thank you :D

My favorite video was the one with the green airbus 320 in it. It was cool. (:
