Problem with FGx on Ubuntu 10.04

Postby monsieur » Mon Jul 23, 2012 11:14 am

Hi!

I have a problem with the newer FGx versions (i.e. 2.6.0 and newer):
Compiling with qmake & make works fine. But when I launch the programm i get this message:

FGx First Startup - Settings Reset
Welcome to FGx. You need to save this Settings Profile first. Choose a writable location in next dialog and click "Save".

When I click "Ok", FGx crashes.

Monsieur

P.S.: I'm running Flightgear 2.6.0 on Ubuntu 10.04...

Hi monsieur

When you save the settings for the first time there is a reload of airports and aircraft list started in background. This can take a while and this blocks all other actions. For this we should add a progress bar probably ... You will get the same behaviour everytime when you change fgdata paths.

Or do I misinterprete your message, is there a real error message you get and you can provide here?

Thanks for your report, Cheers, gral

Hi gral!

Thank you for your answer!
The problem is that I can't even save my settings. FGx crashes just after clicking OK in the message...
When I try to launch FGx over the terminal I get "Segmentation Fault"...:-(

Hi monsieur

Unfortunately I have no Ubuntu 10.04 installed. But I will do so today and have a look if I can reproduce the segmentation fault. Have some additional questions: How did you install FlightGear 2.6.0 ? What qt version are you using ?

Hi gral!

Thank you for your effort!
I'm using qt 4:4.6.2...and I compiled Flightgear myself with cmake.

Thanks, monsieur.

Hi monsieur

Checked ubuntu 10.04 and can reproduce the problem, but backtraced without success, looks like a qt4.6 problem on 10.04 ... then I tried also a manual install of newer qt versions, still without success. But later, upgrading ubuntu to 10.10 did it immediately. Hope you can upgrade your ubuntu install ? And just in case you have "bad" internal FGx settings saved already you can remove the ~./config/FGx folder (this will NOT remove the profiles, unless you started to save profiles exactly in this folder instead of another location).

There are some huge improvements on FGx since version 2.4 and it’s worth to upgrade your machine, just a small little step to 10.10 8) Anyway thanks for reporting this segfault, will scratch my head about this ubuntu 10.04, qt 4.6 and FGx >= 2.6.0 problem for a while.

Cheers, gral

Edit: Monsieur, can you do me a favour and rename the topic to "Problem with FGx on Ubuntu 10.04", thank you very much.

Yes, you should set it solved when you think the initial question is answered and you got all the information needed, or fixed the problem yourself or whatever :D

Thanks, gral
