Eject shells in bombable

Postby runtujazz » Wed Jul 21, 2010 8:57 pm

It would be very difficult to add an animation so that you can see the ejection of shells when the guns are in action? I think that would add an extra touch of realism.

Thank's

Actually, this wouldn't be very difficult at all. That is a very good idea. I'll try modeling different shells(i.e. 7.62mm, 30mm, 20mm, etc.) tonight, and see if I can add the shell ejection to the harrier. I'll post another reply when I'm done.

Ok done. You can download the harrier with ejecting shells here.

.... I have to learn to fly with this plane. Maybe I should specify that I was referring to the aircraft set bombable. I think you've certainly done a wonderful job. I suppose that in addition to the modeling of shells there is the code, do you think could be used for other aircraft set bombable? It would be wonderful.

Have a nice day.

The British Aerospace Harrier carries two Aden 30 mm gun pods. See http://www.raf.mod.uk/equipment/mauserandaden.cfm

"Spent cartridge cases and empty links are ducted from the rear of the gun into a collection bay immediately behind the gun."

Well, it may be funny, but it is unrealistic. Ever better search before doing anything wrong.

Sorry, my mistake. Much to learn here, in my case ;-)

xiii, I suggest you put more time into your research before discrediting work next time.

Luckily, I happen to have quite a few shells around the house(everything from 30mm to 7.62mm), which helps me a LOT with making 3d models of the different shells. I just finished the 7.62mm Shell, and will probably apply it to the A6M2, Fokker DR 1, and sopwith camel. I'm pretty sure those aircraft use the 7.62, but I'll double check first.

EDIT: Actually, the Sopwith Camel uses the .303, I'll have to go and see if I have one of those laying around. :)

Ok, turns out the closest thing I could find to the .303 was a .308 I guess that'll have to do. :o I'm sure that nobody will be able to tell the difference of the two shells when flying by at 50 mph.

could be interesting for rendering?

Well, pictures are ok, but I prefer to be able to hold/touch a tangible object. This makes modeling a lot easier for me. I'll work on the Focke DR.1 next. Expect a release by tomorrow night. :)

Just as a heads up-you probably already know this, but either way-7.62 doesn't mean anything. It's just the diameter of the bullet carried in the cartridge, and when dealing with shell casings, you need more than just bullet diameter. Here are a just few 7.62's.

Pistol
    7.62x25mm Tokarev
    7.65x17mm Browning
    7.63x25mm Mauser
    7.65x22mm Parabellum

Rifle
    7.62x39mm
    7.62x51mm NATO
    7.62x54mmR
    7.62x63mm
    7.62x33mm
    7.62x67mm

I did some research on the kind of rounds used by certain aircraft. Note that some aircraft have cannons as well, so I included information on that as well.

Cannons:
FW190, Ki-84, BF109, A6M2: 20mm (cannon)

MG:
F4U-1, P-51D, Ki-84, F6F: 12.7mm

Spitfire/Seafire, Hurricane: 7.7mm

BF109, FW190: 13mm
Current Project: Yorktown Class, Essex Class, Light & Escort carrier package
Recent Release: X-Wing (Test)
