It's a bit messy situation isn't it?
A poll is just a poll.
I think, from one side there are: "I-wanna-fly-vatsim" enthusiasts (another thing is if they would be capable of make just single proper flight according to all vatsim rules - setting flight plan, making all those things with transponder, radio procedures etc. I'm afraid their first flight on vatsim can be a huge disappointment if they will not learn many things about aviation yet. For example, I don't feel ready for full procedural flight under vatsim yet as well),
next we have people who say "vatsim? why not?",
third group is "I don't care as long as it stay an option but not a necessity"
and at the end, two groups oppositionists:
- "We can do it better on our own, we don't need them"
- "Fck the vatsim and Microsoft, we will fight for free software no matter what, where and when"
I voted "I don't care" because I'm aware of all benefits of opening FG to Vatsim (but not merging!!!), from another side I'm really discouraged by some vatsim veterans who treat newbies like old soldiers treat fresh ones in army. I saw it on Polish forum many times. Some of those actions were fully apropriate (young trolls etc), but in many cases situation looks like "we are elite, you are trash". I never met such behaviour in FG community and that's why I love FG for.
Yes, I know the situation only from Polish vatsim. Maybe there is different in other countries. I know there are many nice guys on vatsim, but I'm sure you all know how party sucks, when among ten cool friends we have one bonker who all the time must be the best one, the wisest one, etc. So that's my concern and worry. That's why I can't be an enthusiast of this idea. But I'm not against it as well.
We will see, how it will develop in time.
