Decal Editor for OS programs (algorithm)

Postby rico001 » Sun Feb 21, 2010 3:47 am

I am a bad programmer I do not know the languages well. I have made an algorithm for a decal editor to be applied to existing aircraft or vehicular models/ open source programs.

Hope you like it.
Edit:
Posted as a wiki entry for now on google sites. Like a cookie cutter cuts out shapes, we could make decal templates, etc. for each aircraft.

found they have something similiar there working on in the vdrift forum for overall paint jobs. We could also have the program do random paint jobs.http://vdrift.net/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=1082

I can't get my head round this, random paint jobs and decal templates :? , can you explain how this would work for something like a 737 :?: :? :?

Is this what you meant?

Look for "B-BIRD" "N127KY" or "AVA0004" -that's me.

Despite having over 1700 posts here, I am not even close to being the most skilled guy here... I'm just words and bad drawing, not experience. :P

Yes (nice pic), thats right the rgb files can be renamed and edited as png's I've added a page to the wiki I made down at the bottom. (DecalUpdate)
I'm hoping that the main template (rgb) colors are stored in the XML file or else the program would have to read the rgb file??? For example in html code the color for the decal of the 737-300 background is: FFFFFFF (white) Someone has probably already worked on this documentation. At least now you'll know how to make and edit your own skins. Will continue to edit the wiki. I will update the FG wiki, and request help how to access the wiki if needed. Custom decals will need to be kept seperately so we don't ruin other peoples work [as outlined in the algorithm

Haven't done anything else, looked for a similar open source project vector editor that we could edit, but haven't found one, I was looking for something like gimp that uses layers better. I'll try to look today, early this week, at how torcs, supertuxkart 3D, handle it and get input from them if necessary.

Got it...but maybe a separate program (using Java or via online) could be created for this?
