[REQUEST] Flight hours counter for Flightgear

Postby I love flying » Mon Oct 03, 2022 11:22 am

Hey there, I've been thinking about this being added into flight gear, so uhhhhhh, yeah, so this is how it works: somewhere in the summary page, there is a small box with the letters that says: Flight hours: Amount of hours in the sim. I mean, how nice that would be? :o
Flying is so magical, just hearing the hum of the engines as I plow through the blue yonder...

I think we have something better. If you fly online there is the FG Tracker ( https://fgtracker.ml/modules/fgtracker ), which will give you statistics for all planes you flew. You need to allow for your callsign to be tracked.
For offline mode there is Hobbs counter, for every (?, I think so) plane used.

I mean, total number of hours in sim does not say much, it could have been all gathered flying ufo and exploring the scenery :)

On the Cessna 172 there seems to be a counter at the very right on the cockpit that counts up flight ours.
I don't know if it is true but I could swear it goes up.

If it does, though, then I don't know how it keeps track since I delete the entire .fgfs directory quite often due to experimentations.

that's the HOBBS Meter... its craft specific data is stored in the aircraft-data/c172p.xml file in ~/.fgfs on linux or in the %APPDATA% directory on windows...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Both the aircraft below, and the FGAddon counterpart, has flight time already built in.
Launch your aircraft and check the debug menu and browse properties.
The time should be in "instrumentation -> clock"
Your aircraft may already have it.

Warning: If the nasal script fails, it won't save the time, and resets it to zero. I always check the clock and write it down before I mess with the nasal scripts.
AFAIK, both mine require no WoW to run the clock. Sitting on the ramp doesn't do it.
