(Suggestion) Set a custom time

Postby VA-41 » Thu Mar 11, 2021 5:43 pm

If you can set a custom date, why not be able to set a custom time as well?

You cannot do that In-sim though.

When I added the ability to set the date I did have controls to allow the minute of day to be set with a slider; but in the end we decided that using the time presets would cover most use cases and keep the UI cleaner.

You can use the "time warp" setting under "Environment/Time Settings" menu to set a custom time in sim. First use the preset closest to the time you want, i.e. "Dawn", "Morning" , etc,
Then warp the time back or forward until you get to the hour and minute that you want. When you get to the time that you want, click "reset" to stop the warp at your custom time.

There is also the /sim/time property subtree. Try changing /sim/time/gmt. This allows for setting year and date too.

Interesting, there are many time settings in /sim/time but the only one I could change was the one you pointed out. Even the 'int' settings under UTC could not be edited. but /sim/time/gmt worked like a charm, and a bit quicker easier than time warp for me.

https://wiki.flightgear.org/Phi

I noticed today that the Phi browser page can also be used to set a custom time.

yep... and be careful clicking around on the map... you can accidentally pick up any craft shown and drag it to another location in-sim...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Happened to me more than once when trying to read nearby navaids data, but only to my own aircraft. Are you saying that, in e.g. multiplayer mode, any participant can drag others' planes to another location and that would be reflected in their sims?

i know you can drag your craft and AI craft... i don't know if dragging an AI that represents another craft over MP will move on their end or not... i think only yours but...

I'm not sure if my AI dragging code makes Multiplayer draggable. It certainly is not replicated across the network.

Could have alot of fun dragging other players around the world ;) Today I clicked on the "show other traffic" layer but only my own aircraft was visible in the world on the Phi map, I was connected to the network according to the MP setup dialog box. Anyone else every have that happen?
