Realistic Procedures (SID / STARS)

Postby flycanarias » Wed Nov 01, 2017 4:46 pm

Hello guys,

is it somehow possible to include realistic SIDs and STARs in the standard route manager ?
This would make the approach procedure extremely more realistic and would simplify the carry-out of these realistic procedures meaning to program them into the route manager / FMC and to carry it out.

Can this be achieved ?

Kind regards,

You need to purchase AIRAC data from Navigraph or else create them manually, yourself, I'm afraid.
FlightGear supports the LEVEL D 767 format. The files should be in Scenery/Airports/X/X/X as XXXX.procedures.xml

You can also create routes using www.skyvector.com and export them to the .gpx format. If you include the sid/star name, skyvector is often able to display the correct waypoints. You won't be able to use the dropdoxn menu's, but at least it's something. SID/STARs can be included with Terrasync data, but require a lot of manual work (simply including navigraph data is not authorised because of licensing issues) and will soon get outdated when no-one updates them every now and then.

For some out of date sids/stars, see https://github.com/l0k1/fg-navaiddata

It's awesome!! Do you have a script that import all of them into FG?

Someone with a little Python knowledge should also be able to parse actual procedure files (public domain) and turn them into a compatible files for FlightGear use.
For instance, consider the www.airnav.com charts, which usually link back to the FAA d-tpp: http://155.178.201.160/d-tpp/1712/

A typical RNAV approach would be this (KSFO/28R): http://155.178.201.160/d-tpp/1711/00375RX28R.PDF

This could be parsed by Python to extract the waypoints (radials, offsets), names and altitudes to be used by the route manager.

This would involve some Python/OpenCV or PDF parsing obviously, i.e. no Nasal -but other than that, it's a good way to ensure that up-to-date procedures can be provided without violating any licenses, and this could even be turned into a web-service
Please don't send support requests by PM, instead post your questions on the forum so that all users can contribute and benefit
Thanks & all the best,

It would be nice if the route manager would allow for adding custom SID/STAR or even partial navdata files which would override or compliment the default. This way one could add custom waypoints, perhaps procedures based on freely published data in the IAIP.

As I said, FlightGear supports LEVEL D 767 format data. You just have to make the .xml in the appropriate format.

So I still have my Navigraph subscription and got the files from there, ran them through the script and put them in the Airports folder but when I'm at an airport that has many procedures, this happens

I think this needs a scroll bar ;)

Best way to get a scroll bar is to send a request to the FlightGear mailing list for someone to add it :) or else add it yourself and share the patch file if you are able to

I'll see if it actually is possible. If so I might be able to do it as that problem is quite annoying.
