[Low Priority] Feature Suggestion for Launcher

Postby CaptainTech » Tue Dec 29, 2015 8:03 pm

Hello.

Here is a feature suggestion for the launcher.
It is for some lazy users:

It allows the user to switch to the simulator or the console window (if enabled), directly from the launcher.

This is a low-priority feature suggestion, but it can actually be useful.

Did you photoshop the picture or code the feature?

I was too lazy to download the source code.
I used the native Windows application: Microsoft Paint (MsPaint.exe) :)

Doing that does not require photoshop :D

@Hooray:
Aren't there other feature suggestions in this forums? Or am I wrong here?
I am too lazy to create a an account on SourceForge.net.

There is no point in improving FGRUN, as it will be deprecated and obsolete in the upcoming 2016.1, although it will still be available as an option, to my knowledge.

However, if you'd like to make a beautiful new launcher, go riht ahead!

Calm down, you can still use it :)
I like the new launcher, a lot, but still use FGRUN for covenience.
The new launcher lets you start overhead any navaid, offset from a navaid (maybe fixes too?), 10 miles out, and all sorts of cool things. But FGRUN is more convenient for me :)

fgrun is there to stay, it just seems that those people maintaining it are not very likely to continue maintaining it as long as there's so much Qt5 related progress being made.
That also applies to the whole "Canvas UI" effort (and to some degree the Aircraft Center) - these are all very much overlapping developments, and it seems that the whole Qt5 thing is getting quite a bit of attention recently, despite being intended to remain an "optional" feature.

In other words, you will definitely be able to keep using fgrun, because all it is doing is using command line arguments to control FlightGear, so not much needed in terms of integration.

If you would like to see certain features added to the Qt5 launcher, it would be better to file feature requests and/or discuss this on the devel list
