Hi epic chicken,

This link is still alive https://www.dropbox.com/s/5cyac3gbbrz45uu/FlightGear-ShakingCockpit_1.4.zip?dl=0. Be careful with adding the effect. It was built for an older version of FG and it has not been updated for a very long time. It still works though. Instead of overwriting the existing files, you should open the files needing change (with Notepad++) and add the scripts manually. Please back them up before you make the changes.

It has been renamed to default.xml in the later versions. Do not overwrite it. Just add the scripts.

Which plane?
Which fg version?
Which settings?
Which fgamera code?

Here it works.

I think it refers to the keyboard control. When fgcamera starts it replace the behaviour of up/down/left/right buttons. It's on my long standing todo list to move it for e.g. ctrl+up binding (if nothing more comes to my mind). This is mostly used when defining views so it should be enabled maybe only when we open the fgcamera configuration dialog.

In my opinion the camera controls should be the same as with the default views.
Extended behavior should be optional and toggleable at runtime.

I have on my list to recheck the keyboard and mouse controls, and will have a look on that too.

Following up on this, i just found out about viewtopic.php?f=25&t=31888
Stuart did long ago add two properties to the default view implementation:
Code: Select all
/sim/rendering/headshake/enabled (true by default)
/sim/rendering/headshake/rate-m-g (too small to notice by default)

Setting "rate-m-g" to 0.15 already had a nice effect in turbolences and also on landings.
Whats just missing is i my opinion:
  • that the roughness of the surface should induce some random g forces into the system (random bumps in the surface will also stress the gears this way automatically!
  • that the air may have random "bumps" too
  • both behaviours are probably aircraft specific: in the air it depends on the aircraft mass and on ground additionally on damping capabilities of the gears

I also did found out that the default "view.nas" already supports view handlers. This raises the question what is the best method of integrating the shaking effects in a clean way? I would suppose as some extension to view.nas, implementing the list above?
Also some of the effects of smooth transition seem to already be in place: "view.point: handles smooth view movements" but why don't is see its effects?

So i think i will need to head over to the mailing list with some questions...
