Working EMAS?

Postby Berserker » Sat Jun 14, 2014 12:12 am

Hello all!

I'm just wondering if it's possible for FG to get a usable EMAS on any airport, or if they've tried coming up with something like this.

Just curious! :)

Favorite Planes on FG: F-14, A-10, A-4, A-6, F-18, Cessna Skymaster, MiG-21, MiG-15, Mirage 2000, and the B-1B.

This comes up from time to time. There have been some attempts. It seems though that there are only two ways to get them working:

  1. Add a new scenery landclass that have a surface roughness high enough to stop a rolling aircraft.
  2. Modify aircrafts to stop at them (in addition it needs to be done in separate ways for separate FDM:s).

You can find one of the efforts on the wiki (Engineered materials arresting systems) and I just added links to this and previous forum topics there that mentions them.

You might be able to put a BAK-12 arresting system on the runway just past the threshold. Make the BAK-12 system invisible. Put a hook on your airplane and make it invisible too.

This should work, unless you try to land over another BAK-12 cable :)
