Cyrillic symbols

Postby Soitanen » Tue Mar 12, 2013 4:09 pm

When will support of cyrillic symbols in game be implemented, as planned before?
Asking in case of doing checklists for Tu-154B-2 (English and Russian) and I want to make Russian version fully cyrillic.
Boeing 737-300. Reworked cockpit, FDM, autopilot and much more. WIP.
Boeing 737-800. WIP. Canvas PFD and ND.
Antonov An-24B. Made from scratch. Very good FDM. 3D model by Adrian. WIP.
Project Russia (some cities, based on OSM with custom objects).

I think this is a wonderful idea, and an excellent suggestion.

Wouldn't support for UTF-8 automagically include Cyrillic support? (Along with a whole host of other non-Latin character sets)

Though I don't read Russian, (at least not that well   ), I would like to endorse the idea of this software being as language agnostic, as reasonably possible.

This is especially important in the case of:
  • Foreign-language instrumentation. (Have you ever seen the cockpit nomenclature for a Tupolev in the original Russian? It's interesting to say the least!) Accurate foreign-language cockpit and checklist implementation would be a big boon to those who would wish to enjoy aircraft manufactured in their own country in as realistic a manner possible.
  • Foreign-language internationalization.

Thanks!

Try two years?

There's been a little progress, but nothing "made it" yet (into a release). Canvas supports Unicode (one of the first examples using Canvas demonstrated that), and the font probably supports Cyrillic, but the menus and almost all of the dialogs are still using PUI (the old GUI system, which predates Canvas... PUI is a dinosaur). Jabberwocky I think made some progress on a Canvas menu replacement, but I think that stalled. So it will probably take a while, and a bit of effort, to get it. But if you're willing to help.... ;)

right, Canvas/osgText should support UTF-8 - refer to the Canvas for demos/screen shots.

Ha-hem! If it's in Cyrillic, I CAN"T READ IT! Why not come up with a feature to classify text in a plane as a separate entity, and invent an option to translate it?
