My new feature Idea! :) Tutorial Mode

Postby aersixb9 » Fri Sep 02, 2011 1:59 am

I just loaded flight gear for the first time, and i picked f-14b, palo alto, then clicked the good graphics options (got a 6-core + nvidia 460 on win7), and it gave an 'access denied' error....plus those options weren't very novice friendly, i found the manual online, and was thinking of grabbin the source while i read it and maybe doin a custom build that includes the relevant manual sections, then loads the game engine with 'good' settings for each part :) almost like a single player quest game, except learning to play? :)

Good idea ? anyone wanna help? e-mail me or post here lol, otherwise i'll be playin with it, looks fun and fsx isn't oss ;p....

If it is complex, i noticed a buncha add-on options, maybe it needs a 'wrapper' program to pick n fetch modules and coordinate add-ons, would ppl get mad if i wrote a wrapper for flight gear + website that had some auto-dl options assumin its also oss ?

FlightGear has an integrated tutorial system that can be largely customized using XML files and Nasal scripting code:

Most certainly, they would not - there have been numerous discussions, here on the forums, as well as on the mailing list to make things more user-friendly (just search the archives)- for instance, have a look here: http://wiki.flightgear.org/Simplifying_ ... Deployment

You may also want to do a forum search for "fgfspm" - the "FlightGear package manager" which is a related project, written in Java:
