Estonia - Scenery developement

Postby Alral » Sat Aug 28, 2010 10:38 pm

Custom Scenery for Estonia.
Developing major Estonian towns and airports since 2010.
Includes some of the nearby airports (Turku, St.Petersburg) as well.

Can be downloaded at:
https://www.online.ee/sharefile.php?shareid=060e0898-0557-41ca-8f76-b1482cca97b4
(Click the link above, find the button "Laadi kõik alla" on the web-page, which means "Download all" and click it. Your download should start immediately).
Last update: 4.04.2016
Make sure to download the archive because TerraSync only has some basic buildings.

Includes:
*Tallinn:
-Most major landmarks (Oleviste church, Viru, Olympia, Radisson hotels, Linnahall, Iru power plant, etc.)
-Airport buildings (main terminal, old terminal, ATC tower).
-Corrected coastline, terrain apron and taxiway layout
-Road net, which includes most major real-life roads. Driveable.
-Blocks of flats.

*Tartu:
-Some landmarks (several bridges over Emajõgi river, Tartu Market building "Emajõe ärikeskus"(business centre), Town hall, Tartu power plant, etc), some flats.
-EETU terminal/ATC building
-Corrected apron/taxiway layout.
-Road net, which includes most major real-life roads. Driveable.

*Pärnu:
-EEPU ATC/terminal building
-Corrected apron/taxiway layout

*Kuressaare::
-EEKE ATC/Terminal building, airfield maintenance machinery hangar
-Kuressaare castle and a couple of town's objects.
-Airport layout, terrain by henrikp.

*Ruhnu:
-Several major landmarks (Lighthouse, New church), terminal building and hangar at airfield.
-Harbour
-Airfield, terrain, OSM-buildings by henrikp

*Kärdla, Turku:
-Airport ATC/terminal building

*Saint Petersburg:
-Some objects of Pulkovo airport (Pulkovo-1 terminal and boarding ramps)
-Pulkovo tower created by wrg

Some objects are present in TerraSync, but not all. And terrain work is present only in the downloadable archive. So, I suggest downloading and installing the whole package.

Excellent! You're creating a nice and interesting city. Thanks for sharing your work with us.
Applying some textures will make it look even better, but for plain-colored models they are really good!

Thank you.
I didn't want to use textures in order not to make it too heavy. However, I did use texture for some buildings (Town hall - walls and roof, Pärnu airport - EU flag).
This is the first time I faced 3d-modelling. I am to continue this work and I will post here as soon as I finish other buildings. These are just the most important landmarks.
There is some problem with scenery (airport shouldn't be floating in the lake - the lake is placed a bit incorrectly, and normal taxiways are missing - didn't manage to solve some problems with TerraGear), but I tried to model buildings correctly (some insignificant, in my opinion, details , as window configuration, may differ from original).

If your models qualify, please submit them to the scenery model database at http://scenemodels.flightgear.org - that way, we can incorporate them into the default scenery and everyone can see them if they fly into Tallinn!

I have created some textures for this model after looking at it in detail. I think these could really help the realism level of your construction.

Image #1: This is a metal texture that I created by hand to simulate the aluminum texture on the vertical edge of the roof:

Image #2: This is a glass texture that I created for your windows (although you may need/want to decrease the opacity [see-throughness] of the texture so that you can see through the glass):

These are already in PNG format and sized in powers of 2 to make them FlightGear-compatible. If you are interested, I can e-mail them to you :)

->SkyWlf77

For which building do you mean using this textures? Airport main building?
They seem nice, I will test them. It will be nice if you e-mail them to me. Thanks for participating.

->Statto

It is not really finished at the moment (though fully usable)...I am planning to do some work on the existing buildings and add some more. Then, I think, it could be added.

Yes, these are for the main building. Please let me know what you think and if you end up needing any changes. I will get these e-mailed off to you in just a moment :)

You're quite welcome. Textures is what I do ;)

That would be nice...I cannot promise that I will test this right now, but sooner or later I will test it.
You may see how it looks in real life:

Also, see here: http://www.airliners.net/photo/-/-/1098 ... id=1098484

This is a much closer-up shot giving a good view of how the details of the building can be made.

Thank you for the other links. I'll see what else I can generate in the next couple of days :)

... (although you may need/want to decrease the opacity [see-throughness] of the texture so that you can see through the glass):

This is useless if you didn't model the interior, cause performance degradation, and cause the "model-seen-thru-clouds" bug.

In fact I wasn't planning to make the windows transparent. Maybe some effect can be added in this way (transparent window - and non-transparent behind, as I did for Radisson), it could make the model look more realistic, but I am not sure it is worth of doing. Not hard technically, but not sure how it affects performance and whether it causes bugs - I used transparency only for 2 objects, and only in minor details so far.

Thank you.
I sent the files to scenemodels. Did not receive an answer yet, but I think they should sooner or later appear in TerraSync. But the download link is also working.
Tartu is in developement now - a town in Central Estonia.

1)Some buildings for Tartu added, including the terminal
Not much, but at least anything...for me it's quite hard to model the city where I was last time half a year ago.
2)Olümpia hotel in Tallinn pack updated - visually it is the same, but is now about 800 kB instead of 2+ MB. Is located in the same package as the first version.

P.S. I sent Tallinn to Scenemodels several days ago, but still didn't receive a reply. Didn't find the models in object list as well. Does the data base work at the moment?
Thank you.

Scenemodels is having some database problems at the moment. If you emailed Martin, you may want to send a (polite!) email reminding him about your models.

Cheers
