London Gatwick EGKK is available as a direct download from http://www.mediafire.com/?mweztmzly2a

(EDIT 23Jun10: change to URL)

I hope you enjoy it half as much as I enjoyed creating it for FlightGear.
Will someone please upload it to the CVS server?
If you find any problems that need correcting please let me know; I'm not yet ready for suggestions for improvements just now.

Happy EGKK landings.

You did an awesome job! There's no need for us to name all good stuf (that would take hours), so here's a list of the not-so-good stuff that I noticed immediately. I might post more later this weekend.

- You've just only shared objects. This is fine for common objects, as carparks etc. but unique buildings (like most of the airport buildings) do not belong in the Models/ directory. You don't want to download all those models with each FG package (especially not if you, as a user, won't visit London). Place them directly inside Scenery/Objects/.../... instead (same dir as .stg file where they belong to) and link to them in the .stg file via OBJECT_STATIC filename.ac
- When you've switched to static models, you can contact Martin or Jon to get it added to the official scenery: http://scenemodels.flightgear.org/contribute.php
- I get lots of missing files in the Models/Misc directory. All of these models, are not in that dir of the CVS/Git repository. I did find the caisess, fire-truck and traffic ones in Models/Airport and the _services in Models/Aircraft though.

I'm of to take my 744 and drive around a little more :D

Just tested this locally, I don't see Gijs missing models, and the main thing is, it looks great. Frame rate impact is also entirely bearable - much better than EHAM or EGLL - which leads me to think it's the number of AI aircraft (EGLL has loads, but obviously no buildings apart from T4) which is impacting frame-rates for for me. (Which makes sense, given how static geometry such as buildings is handled).

Don, I love the little details, such as the spinning ground-radar on the control tower, really adds a little bit of life.

EDIT - while I don't see the 'missing model' errors, I also don't appear to have the models in question, eg Misc/caisses1.xml. Not quite sure what's going on there.

Sounds to me like there are still a few kinks to work out yet -- but Don did ask someone to submit it on his behalf.

Is someone taking that on as a project already? I have a few projects of my own working already, but will devote some time to this one if no one else can/will, because I'd hate to see any of this brilliant work squandered if there are only some small issues that need to be tweaked.
Cheers,

i download it but i spotted an error in one of the parked planes. because the ups 747 has an open nose and windows. so it is a cargo an a passenger plane at the same time...

That's OK, it's probably a Combo, Convertible or QC, or whatever they that type of 747.

Hi Karla/Don Lavelle,

A very nice main and complete London airport. I have just moved across to 2.0.0 and am running it side by side with 1.9.1 and just dowloaded your London Gatwick (EGKK) airport build contribution and installed it. I will surely make that my base airport.

Really smooth work and must say, I think it is the best airport build in FG at the moment - some very nice touches. Comparable to Amsterdam and Schippol overall and surpasses them in places. A few bits and bobs, file paths, etc. to sort out but excellent all the same.

Best wishes.

Bye for now.

HMT1.
