If it's "just" to update & test an airport:
- download and install WED from XPlane site and follow the advices ("fake" XPlane directories creation) on FG Wiki (search for "WED") ;
- make sure you download the latest .dat available for this airport on XPlane scenery site ( http://gateway.x-plane.com/airports/page ). Note that there is currently approximately a 2 years delay between the data on XPlane site and the data you can see in the latest FG scenery if you are using Terrasync. The latest data shipped in the next World scenery can be seen on the mapserver : http://mapserver.flightgear.org/
- update the airport via WED ;
- test it via http://scenery.flightgear.org/tgweb/ (note that the elevation will probably not be good, as the airport tile won't be clipped with adjacent tiles) ;
- submit it to XPlane scenery gateway (you'll need an account first) and wait for it's update in FG.

Any news when the shapefiles download will be available again. Unfortunately I lost all mine by pressing the download button again. A safety question would be handy there.

Nope, for the moment, no mapserver alternative is up. Terrasync is the priority to reset up now.

Terrasync doesn't deliver the shapefiles needed for a custom scenery or does it?

No, it (mostly) delivers .stg, .btg files and 3D models related files (xml, ac, png...). Shapefiles are needed one step before, to create btgs with the shapes you want/updated.

I know. ;-) I found the V0 ones on the ftp.uni-duisburg.de but Europe was generated from CS. I haven't found a source that matches the ones you got from the mapserver.

That's normal, it's a huge work Martin was hiddenly doing we have to reset up. Now that Terrasync and scenemodels are up again, this is the next but huge step to achieve.

Hi,

at present I would like to update an airport which has only the default airport layout of FGFS. For that reason I wanted to use TerraGear GUI for scenery creation.
When trying to download shapefiles I always get error messages (download of /http://mapserver.flightgear.org/ ... failed: Host mapserver.flightgear.org not found). It is always the same message regardless what source I try.

In the FG wiki for TerraGear GUI there is stated that the shapefiles can be downloaded by hand, but the link to the mapserver in the wiki is also broken.
Is there a source where I can get the shapefiles from manually? Or any other hint how to get ahead with TerraGear?

I´m not quite sure if this is really the same problem as mentioned in the previous posts; if it is I apologize dualing the problem.

There is no mapserver. The V0 files are freely available, in fact someone posted them on github recently. But I don't know how they all differ from what was on the mapserver

Shapefiles:

https://github.com/FGMEMBERS-TERRAGIT/v0_landmass
https://github.com/FGMEMBERS-TERRAGIT/v0_urban
https://github.com/FGMEMBERS-TERRAGIT/v0_lake

Thats all you need.
Don't use roads shapefile or more shapefiles, that will reduce a lot of fps.
This shapefiles cover all the world.

SRTM-3 :

http://www.viewfinderpanoramas.org/Cove ... s_org3.htm // cool website

You need first compile(convert...whatever) this files using Terra GUI. So convert the elevation data, convert the shapefiles, build all airports in the area, and finally build the terrain.
You can use the UFO aircraft to add objects into scenery. But that's the last thing to do.

Just add /archive/master.zip at the end of the link.
https://github.com/FGMEMBERS-TERRAGIT/v ... master.zip // this will download the landmass shapefile directly
