Adding an Improved Airport to FlightGear database

Postby jaques.flightgear » Wed Apr 22, 2009 8:10 pm

Hi fg gurus,

I tried to improve the layout of taxiways and runways of some airports next to where I live. It is far from being perfect but better than the standard layout I believe. My questions:

How can I integrate my new layout (generated taxidraw project file) in my local fg installation to check if everything is okay? (It has to do something with terra gear I think.)

How can I contribute my improvements to the fg database?

I did not find a suitable manual.

Can anybody help?

Cheers

This should be a separate topic, but the process of committing a new airport layout to the database is not as straightforward as adding an object to the scenery. I believe martin has more insight.

What about Changi Airport in Singapore? (WSSS) I think someone enhanced it and put it on http://www.unitedfreeworld.com

I think you are right, but it is not in the official database and therefore I cannot put it on the list.

Hi,
It was me who made the Changi Terminals. But they are all in the same model file, which i'm sure does not meet the repo's requirements. I plan to do it over again in Blender anyway.....

add LILN too, little little airport but with it's surrounding building well placed.

This list is really useful I think it should be put in the wiki.

Add TFFG, Grand Case, to the list. It's the little strip on the other side of St. Maarten from Princess Juliana. It only has a couple modest buildings, but they are there. Also on the next island up is a strip called Wallblake, TQPF, which has a couple of modeled buildings as well.

I don't see this in the database, is it in the official repository or just third-party scenery?

Updated.

Sorry, it is not in the database, because no extra models where created for it, but if you start there you see the buildings placed.

82C, Mauston-New Lisbon Union Airport and 68C, Central County Airport should be added to the list.

I must have missed these, I'm going to take your word on the fact they're in the database because you've done such a good job with KOSH,

KAPC (Napa County, north of the bay area) may be improved as well. I seem to remember getting lost once flying around the bay area and ending up there, and being surprised to see an array of buildings already sitting pleasantly around the tarmac. I'm at work at the moment so I can't check this myself, but perhaps the next person who happens across this topic can verify it?

Indeed there are a few buildings, mainly hangars.
