Port Vila ILS course incorrect

Postby SurferTim » Thu Sep 01, 2022 3:52 pm

The Port Vila Vanuatu ILS course is wrong in TerraSync.
The correct course should be 90.000. There is a 25+ degree offset to the runway.
The TerraSync course is 117.54. This is the RUNWAY HEADING. If you follow this with the altitude minimums on the approach plate, you will crash.

Edit: There is no better time to discover this than at 2AM in crappy visibility. My custom scenery (nav.dat) has the correction, but TerraSync overrides nav.dat with its XXXX.ILS.xml file. I know how to fix it.

Here is the correct NVVV.ils.xml
Code: Select all
<?xml version='1.0' encoding='ISO-8859-1'?>
<PropertyList>
  <runway>
    <ils>
      <lon>168.327169</lon>
      <lat>-17.687794</lat>
      <rwy>11</rwy>
      <hdg-deg>90.00</hdg-deg>
      <elev-m>3.05</elev-m>
      <nav-id>IBF</nav-id>
    </ils>
  </runway>
</PropertyList>

Are You sure with LOC course ?
I found some info about 26 deg offset, if the runway 11 heading is 106 deg, then LOC course should be 80, not 90.

Magnetic variation 11.7 degrees.
I've already flown it several times. It's good. I wouldn't lie to you unless I thought it was harmless and funny.

Edit: It could be 91.7 degrees on that course rather than 90. I just swag'ed it *scientific wild-ass guess

At one point I thought the magnetic variation there was 10.1 degrees, but I just checked, and it is 11.7.

Edit: I flew it several times yesterday with 91.70 as the course, and it looked really good. At D2.5, the runway is exactly where it should be.
