Same result with TerraSync folder at the bottom of the additional scenery list.

Word to the wise: Test it before you suggest it.

i don't know what you are trying to say... i always operate with terrasync enabled and at the bottom of my scenery list... i know it works and according to james on the mailing list, the scenery search starts with the top scenery entry... if the tile is not found, then FG goes to the next scenery path and looks... and so on until it finds the tile or it does not...

I'm not claiming this is what it is supposed to do. I'm telling you what it does. I tried what you suggested, and it didn't work.

The order of preference determined by "poking the bear with a stick":
1) TerraSync XXX-ils.xml
2) local additional scenery file
3) apt.dat/nav.dat.

Did you try any of the tests I performed? How did it work for you? Every test I have tried points to this order.

Edit: This is like the scientific method.
Form a hypothesis
Develop a test to determine the validity of the claim
Perform the test multiple times to check consistency
Publish the hypothesis, tests, and results for peer review..
That is where I am now.

BTW, the best test wasn't mine. It was by MariuszXC. It shows that it is a runway-by-runway preference, not airport-by-airport.

your local custom tile for CYUL is complete with all the files, right? not just the ILS file you're trying to override? everything needs to be in the custom one or the override won't work...

@wkitty42: I don't see your test results. Did you fail to post them, or fail to do them?

Please post your hypothesis, your tests, and your results. I'll peer review them.

i'm not testing anything... never was, in this case... all i've done is tell you what the code does... this can be seen in the fgfs.log file... i have no need to be testing things like this in FG because the code is just "right there"...

That is exactly what I expected from you. Big talk, no action.

My hypothesis, tests, and results stand. The preference order is:
1) TerraSync XXX-ils.xml
2) local additional scenery
3) apt.dat/nav.dat

At least MariuszXC gave me a good test. It reinforced what I am claiming.

Prove me wrong.

I have made a folder "test". In there I symlinked the terrain and objects folders from TerraSync, and I create Airports/S/A/W/ and put the SAWH.*.xml files from TerraSync in there, and edited test/Airports/S/A/W/SAWH.ils.xml's lat and lon properties (just added 1 to each). Then I pointed FG to the folder containing these three directories and disabled TerraSync, and spawned in at SAWH. The result was the ILS still being in the same place on the in-sim map.

You copied the files from TerraSync, edited them, then disabled TerraSync. Is that correct?

If you didn't disable TerraSync, what happens?

That's correct.

It makes no difference to the results whether TerraSync is enabled or not.

Interestingly,
Code: Select all
debug.dump(io.read_airport_properties("SAWH", "ils"));

prints just '</data = null (NONE)>' to the console.

Hmm, well, with TerraSync enabled the Nasal script from the last reply also prints the same null thing for "KSFO", "ils", so maybe that's just broken.

Re: Montreal CYUL ILS data downloaded with TerraSync

So what you are saying is the preference is
1) TerraSync copied to local additional scenery
2) TerraSync XXX-ils.xml
3) local nav.dat in additional scenery
4) apt.dat/nav.dat

So just to be clear, your local scenery nav.dat file is no longer a way to override TerraSync localizers.
So the preference order is
1) TerraSync data
2) local additional scenery nav.dat files
3) apt.dat/nav.dat

Is this correct?

I do the same as Eagle's setup, I don't disable terrasync and shifting the ILS works fine:

Image
Image

The cyan 'ILS' marker appears only when NAV1 is tuned to the ILS. The deep blue flying-V markers appear to to (wrongly) associated with the runway tags: bearing .
Edit not 'wrongly' if I assumed they are ILS markers when in fact they're intended as runway bearing indicators !
All these changes work OK from cust/Airports/?/?/?/*.xml , I've not seen any changes work OK from any form of nav.dat that I stored in the custom scenery folder.

Good test polly! Thanks!

The preference order is as I claimed
1) TerraSync
2) local additional scenery nav.dat files.
3) apt.dat/nav.dat

Do you agree?

In fact, io.read_airport_properties is not broken - I was just using the wrong function for dumping.
@polly: you are using git next, right ? I am.
