Cook Islands custom scenery

Postby legoboyvdlp » Fri Jan 07, 2022 1:40 pm

New scenery for FlightGear that I created while trying out Docker. I can highly recommend Docker. It's way easier than compiling.

Given that at least one island, literally did not exist in TerraSync, only the airport, this scenery is of a bit higher quality than previous TerraSync :)

Now available in TerraSync!

Looks great. I want to try the docker way as I was getting stuck compiling.... Really want to get Luton updated so will be my first try.

Sorry for a liitle offtop but I want to understand how scenery works here (or maybe - scenery creating). Current world was generated with use of some script (which takes a loooot of time AFAIR) and sent to TerraSync (or DB behind this). Due to time consuming process it is unlikely to rebuild the whole world, so currently the only feasible way to add new/improve existing scenery is to generate scenery 'by hand' and upload it to TerraSync? Thanks!

Correct. There is also ongoing work on WS3.0 using new virtualplanetbuilder technology.

This is used to current WS version (https://wiki.flightgear.org/Howto:Docke ... _toolchain)? Just to be sure - if something is uploaded to TerraSync, then it is available for everyone, right? And WS3 will use same DB for scenery - it will only differ in the way scenery is generated (and some things will be generated on-the-fly AFAIU)? Sorry for offtop - may I ask a moderator to wove it to proper thread?

Yep it's available for everyone.

I used Docker, but you can also compile it yourself if you wish. I did that about 2 years ago. But docker is actually much easier.

My scenery does not cover French Polynesia, only the Cook Islands
