Apt.dat from the gateway being loaded with errors

Postby lomar » Thu May 20, 2021 10:49 pm

hi,guys, i have been dealing with a problem that has been freaking me out. when i try to import an airports in WED from the Xplane scenery gateway, some of them display an error message and most taxiway markings have no line or lights attributes. the log shows lots of lines saying "Ignoring unknown airport line attribute -1." I already tested almost every single version available, inclding the latest stable and the beta ones, and all show the same error. I'm getting desperate, because this is pausing the development of my sceneries as i cannot use those airports properly and i could not find help anywhere. i get the impression i might be the only person experiencing this issue.

Do you have a "mock up" directory structure to make WED believe you have X-Plane installed?

Maybe these new versions are trying to read a configuration file somewhere in the file structure of X-Plane, which is not there, thus originating the error. Although in such case you should get some warning in the log... Just a wild guess!

Does it give a line number of the line it says it is ignoring?
If so what does the line look like?
Also it says it is "ignoring" the problem line, not necessarily an "error". Are you not getting anything imported?

the log does not say wich lines are being ignored.

when it loads, these ignored lines will have no attrributes, they will read as "none", Instead of some thing like "Solid yellow", "solid white", etc.

On the screenshot of SBGL i posted, it is very proiminent, as every taxiway centerline and parking position will be like that.

Ah, it's been so long since I worked with WED I really can't offer much help without completely getting back into it.

You can't just fix the attribute fields that are blank once you get it imported?
Do you have any examples of what the attributes should be? ie: are there any less complex airports that import correctly?
Or, what type of attribute do the line or light field attributes normally contain?

I guess I don't understand how it is stopping you from continuing with the conversion even though your loosing some data? I'm wondering if the attributes are simply new ones that WED doesn't understand. I don't even remember if WED is what is supposed to be used with x-plane and current with it?

IIRC the problem is that WED can't find the resources for these lines (.lin files)
I have the XPlane free demo installed so that's probably why I don't get the error

Does running the dsf2aptdat.py script that comes in the d-laser-fgtools package, to convert the Xplane airport.dat to a flightgear airport.dat help? More on my experiences here - viewtopic.php?f=5&t=38816

Ok, i could solve it. It in fact had to do with the lack of some X-plane data needed for the program tot read.
i found a forum thread on the xplane forum that explains it very well
https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/131364-wed-minimum-x-plane-install-requirements/
maybe someone should update the wiki to give better instructions?

now, i just need to find out how to make these new airports to run on terragear, bc it won't do so.

have at it! anyone can edit the wiki and it is better for someone interested in something to handle updates to it and its page(s)... each page also has a talk page where things can be discussed first if large changes to the page are under consideration...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

I would love to do so, but right now i've been quite busy. but it wouldn't be a problem to me to write a complete step by step tutorial there when i finally understand how to completely use WED to create functional apt.dat's to be used on Terragear

It seams my "wild guess", after all, was not far from the truth!
Now, I am looking forward for such an step by step tutorial... Soon I will face the same hurdles, giving that I intend to generate updated scenery for the Azores, and for the moment I am focusing just on the Mesh and Land Class components.
