Brilliant pb321! Please send your photographs to FG-Assets (at) outlook.com fronts, backs, roofs- whatever you have. Please include the country and region in the subject line and if more than one country kindly name the photos.

Thank you for the photos pb321 - I've replied to your contribution on email: FG-Assets (at) outlook.com
All those that expressed an interest in the posts on the thread, please can you send your unprocessed photos through ahead of the Hackathon in November - it would be great to have those assets ready to go and make some real progress with the building/roof textures - I'm looking forward to receiving your contributions no matter how small :)

email your unprocessed photos with the region as the subject to FG-Assets (at) outlook.com

...and I did promise an award for the first contributor ...I may issue further awards, you'll have to make a contribution though. (Mods. Please let me know if this is ok to post)

Haha, good point! This award is specifically for new photographs of buildings/roofs merspieler (It says so in the thread, and just for the first contribution). I was secretly hoping it would incentivise the community into making a contribution to the simulator the many enjoy for free thanks to the hard work of some (hint hint, people). And, thinking about, it I'll gladly post an award for all (decent) photographic contributions if you like, I just need the contributions...

still waiting...

:)

pb321 has been working hard in the USA, learning about the camera and sending in pics for FlightGear buildings - nice work pb321 - keep it up.
We've also just head from Isi who has some pics from around Yorkshire in the UK - great to see the contributions starting to come in for this project :)

Here's some recent development on the random buildings texture, there are still issues to fix with the reflection and normal maps so you will spot errors and artefacts in the images. I cant pass any building IRL without fixating on the door and windows... All done with original photos, blender, illustrator and photoshop. This is work in progress.

Adds nice variety! Thanks for pushing all this time and I'm sure will look even better once the normal/reflection map stuff is done!

BTW you mentioned cube maps on the mailing list, just FYI Erik has recently updated them (~2 weeks ago) https://sourceforge.net/u/fahimdalvi/fg ... 7f2b5665c/

Thanks for the comment and the heads-up about the cube map Fahim. I'm guessing one cube map for all is the most efficient way to go unless anyone knows otherwise? I'm curious about taking advantage of the sun reflection like we see in water too but suspect its a bit more complex. Mariusz also mentioned at one point that railway lines would also reflect the sun too, if this is a simple adding of a reflection map out world add yet another layer of realism for those VFR trips. By the way, we miss you and your enquisitive passengers on the Wednesday Evening G.A. events.

You get that automatically for flat glossy surfaces when using the model-combined effect.

Notice that you will only get a flat white sun reflection, no glare or bloom.

I miss the flights too! Unfortunately since Day light savings ended for you all, the same time is an hour later here and thats a bit too late. Actually I make the intention of joining almost every week but the schedule hasn't worked out yet. Maybe this week!

Anyone familiar with the current lightmap for the random buildings? Who made it? I'm seeing this light effect over the doorways on the current buildings-lightmap.png but when I open the bitmap I can't see those areas either in gimp or photoshop. Other areas of light show up as expected.
