When is apt.dat updated?

Postby frtps » Tue Aug 13, 2019 2:50 pm

It appears that the apt.dat.gz in next is from 2013, judging from the header comments, and so a bit out of date. Are there any plans to update it? What is involved in making this update?

Generally a terrain re-generation, otherwise the actual layout and the layout provided by apt.dat are out of sync.

Thanks, makes sense. So those generating their own terrain can download current airport info directly from the X-plane site and insert into their local apt.dat.

That is correct.

Although the current method is to use the NavData folder to load custom apt.dats rather than editing the big apt.dat which is basically meant to be read-only. I'll try and find an example for you ;)

Does genapts850 merge information from both the NavData folder and the big apt.dat when looking for airport layouts?

No.
Genapts just takes whatever input you feed it, it doesn't care where it comes from :)
