I can put that rise in just about like that, but I need to know if I have the longitude right.

The new hgt file should have a 2 meter rise in it, but it may be too far east and not steep enough.
Download the hgt file, build the scenery with it, then post the scenery or a pic so I can see where the rise is.

I already did build the scenery and I already did post a picture....? Indeed, its at the 26 end of the runway. It's right - just need one at the 08 end now of about 1.3 meters (ie 4 feet) :)

These are usually defined using WED which AFAIK writes then to apt.dat.

The scenery I used that you posted shows the runway as flat. No gradient.

I am aware of that - but why is my runway blank after processing in TerraGear?

You can't see the end of the runway here - I think the slope is there, although very slight. :?:

If it doesn't display the correct gradient. then the reason may be you are not using --max-slope.

As a test you could ( using WED ;) ) move the threshold further down the runway.

I passed that parameter to genapts, so I would hope it is using --max-slope :P I may have mis-calculated... will try to see what the correct value should be.

AlanT, not quite certain - is that about the markings, or about the slope?

About your missing markings. You clearly have some of them visible, if you use WED to move them further from the runway end, then you will know if the fault is with apt.dat and terragear or something else such as the runway going under the grass.

The --max-slope parameter requires a value. D-ECHO is the one to give you advice on what that value should be. He did a great job on St Barth with my bulldozing.

Yep, I already calculated that to be 0.0025 but if anyone proposes another one I can try it.

I bulldozed the runway so we both should be able to see where it should be.
http://www.prolectron.com/flightgear/N49W003.hgt

It will go from 82 meters (271') to 84 meters (277') in about 70 meters.

Edit: I don't think your --max_slope value is sufficient.
A 6 foot rise over 600 feet is 1 percent ( 0.01 )
A 6 foot rise over 300 feet is 2 percent ( 0.02 )

The second is probably closer to what you want.

Ok, thank you. I will try that last value.

Edit - the result:

The slope is quite nice, except the runway at the end has this rather strange cliff with a very very thin part raised up?

And there needs to be a slope at the 26 end.

It's hard to tell from the pic. Is the top of the rise in the right place?

Edit: If the top of the rise is in the correct place, I can slope the other end and reduce the cliff size.

No - you don't understand.

The 26 (eastern) end needs a similar bump to the 08 one!

The top of the rise is near the end of 08.

I think perhaps I will just use SRTM-3 and use proper slope... it should be safer?
