Here is the first graded SRTM file. I'm starting kinda backwards this time. I graded everything I think is within the airport boundary (including the ramp) at 1 meter.
I will go back when I am certain we have the airport boundary correct. Edit: Let me know how many squares I need to go in each direction. Those are 30m squares.

Here is the way it looks in Landserf.

The version with your modified hgt is now git so you can check it, I'm currently working on the layout, because the current one has some weird things.

Not a problem. This should be pretty close. Same link. Graded to 18 meters at the west airport boundary.
I hope I added enough to clear the taxiway from the cliff. It's gonna be close at 30m resolution.

Edit: I recall you needing to add slope to the airport compile?
Don't want it level, it should fit this graded slope.

It looks quite fine for me, although there is a strange "hill" in front of the beginning of the runway (on the mountain side). Maybe you can check that out. (the scenery is in the repository)

Something wrong there. The rwy10 threshold should be 58 feet (18 meters).

The last scenery download was with the runway level at 1 meter. Do you have the new one with the new grade?

In the latest commit I used --max-slope=0.021 which _should_ be the correct slope for TFFJ (see the calculation a few pages back in this thread).

If the runway is not 3 feet elevation at the rwy28 threshold (near bay), and 58 feet at the rwy10 threshold (near cliff), your number is wrong.

Edit: Or if there is any type of cliff on the rwy28 end (near the bay). It should slope off into the water. No cliff.
That parameter is max-slope, not slope. Do me a favor. Try it with this.
Code: Select all
--max-slope=0.05

I want it to match the grade.

I know it seems I'm being a bit anal about this, but this airport runway is notorious as the #3 most dangerous airport in the world.
The cliff and the runway slope is the reason.

Thanks! I don't mean to be so anal at times, but this is my favorite airport of all time.
I'll check it out. I'm just booting up my FG computer.

No problem at all, I love this airport as well and I'm very to happy to invest time to make it look nice :)

Thank you very much! That is the magic number! That, except for the fact I have rwy10 threshold too high in my grading, is perfect!
.No cliff at all on the rwy28 end. Slopes right into the water. Perfect!

I need to readjust the slope on the rwy10 end. My bad.
It is showing near 70 feet instead of 58-60 feet.
I'll post when I have it regraded.

Hold that compile. Flew the UFO over the turning circle. I can go back another cell without affecting the turning circle. I forgot there are 3 cells here to every 1 in the old resolution.

Here it is:
http://www.prolectron.com/flightgear/N17W063.hgt.zip
I dropped it from 18 meters on rwy10 threshold to 15 meters.
That should drop it about ten feet.
Thanks for everything!

BTW, in X-Plane, there is no cliff on the St Barts stock scenery. You have to pay $20+ to get the cliff. Custom scenery.
I had already laid out the $35 for X-Plane, only to find my favorite aircraft (DHC6) is another $25.

Edit: The math said 18 meters * 3.3 = 59 feet.
I suspect that may be due to the extreme elevation variation in the next cell (the cliff).
If you look, you can see where the airport boundary sticks into the the next cell. There is a boundary wall at the base of the cliff.
I prefer to lie to the program and get the rwy10 threshold and slope correct, with or without a boundary wall.
I could take the grade another cell west, but I think it may eat the turning circle.

OK, I took it another cell west. 100 feet was not a problem.

IMHO it looks (very) good now, thank you so much. Feel free to check, if you're fine with it I'll start with adjusting the objects to fit the new positions and elevations

There is a kind of strange edge in front of runway 10, but I suspect it's due to the road smoothing algorithm, don't know if you can do anything about that?
