Inverted house at PHNL

Postby eatdirt » Sat May 18, 2019 7:02 pm

Apparently, I am the only taxiing on the see-side corner of PHNL. Got the CRJ-900 damaged by an inverted house floating around nearby the hangars of Hawaiian airlines :)
Because it is inverted, the thin floor is invisible but intercept the taxi lane -->

Shall I open a bug report for scenery?

Cheers,
Chris.

You can actually probably fix it yourself click here https://scenery.flightgear.org/map/?z=15&lat=21.316357&lon=-157.9472 find the house and delete it. That will be reviewed.

Thanks for the link, and sorry for the naive question, I am quite new to FG. The problem is that I don't see the house on that map, and I have found another broken house one on the same lane which does not appear neither there :-/

can you provide coordinates, please? it may be something in the stg file instead of the objects...

if it is something in the stg, it would likely be in Objects/w160n20/w158n21/367568.stg but i don't see anything obvious...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Hi Kitty,
I've found two houses like this, the first one:

The second one:

The lon/lat are the one of the P-51, so the houses are 1-2 meters off w.r.t the coordinates on the pictures. Is that ok?

that should be fine for someone to get closer to figuring out the problem...

are you using any custom scenery?

I was using custom scenery for Florida, but even after removing it from my fgfsrc I still see the 2 houses!

ok... was just checking because scenery is merged together whereas craft are not...

Ah thanks, good to know.

I have deleted the .fgfs/TerraSync and TextureCache directories in case they were containing old sceneries. Starting a fresh session after that, with --enable-terrasync, I got more than 300Mb of download for PHNL, and the houses were there. At least someone could confirm if they see them as well?

This is in front of the Continental hangars?

I don't see anything like like on my PC - Ubuntu 18.0.4 Flightgear 2019.2.0

On next solely with terrasync, starting at the coordinates you provide, I do not see this issue. Can you turn on the wireframe view and post a screenshot of that? Are you sure you don't have any other scenery paths set up via config files?

PHNL is the default scenery, i.e. it could be coming with the base package.

As part of the base package distributed with FG, I would have assumed we would have heard something about upside-down houses on the taxiway at the default airport from other FlightGear users by now. This is so obvious that I think an issue with the shipped tile can be discounted.

@Alex, yes, just nearby.

Thanks all for the feedback! I forgot to say but that was a build from 2019.2.0 about 1 week ago. I have just checked on another computer running 2018.3.1, and, indeed, there, I don't see any issue, and the scenery looks actually much richer than for the problematic one, so my FGDATA might be corrupted.

A comment though, I never managed to get a git snapshot of FGDATA, the connection gets reset certainly due to the too large size to download. So, from sourceforge, I downloaded a .zip by clicking on "Download snapshot". I'll check if the issues come from that!

Here with the wireframe

without:

I've rebuilt fgdata from a successful git snapshot today, erased all directories and started from a scratch install, no joy. The houses are there and I am clearly missing some scenery. For instance, I don't have the signs "Continental" on the hangars :-/
