Hi

Great, that's all clear for me :-)

Many thanks for the work on this, it's a brilliant project.

I also just wanted to say thank you, i downloaded my region and this makes such a huge difference navigating it with VFR.

Today i wanted to check in on another region and i cannot find the overview anymore.
It says: "As there is work done, to get osm2city into terrasync, this download site is no longer available."

If that is true, this would be amazing!
I would immediately turn over to OpenStreetmap and enhance their data.

Is this true?
When will the data be populated so terrasync picks it up?
What will be the update cycle on the OSM data?

Hi

Have a look at the reply I got, the link is there for the current files. There are some areas such as central Europe that don't seem to be done yet and if I understand correctly, there is nothing new getting generated just yet. Personally can't wait for Europe to get finished, hint hint

merspieler wrote in Mon Jul 27, 2020 2:32 pm:Hey dom_vc10,
welcome to flightgear.

Here's the link: https://cdn.merspieler.tk/osm2city/current/

You can download the area you like.

The areas are named by their south-western corner.

For example: Cairns is at lat -16.9, lon 145.8.
The sourth western corner of that area is lat -17, lon 145 so the name is e145s17 which can be found in the e140s20 directory.

This map will help you, finding the coordinates: https://scenery.flightgear.org/map/

Yes, central europe hasn't been build yet.

I'll continue with the osm2city build, once the Australia terrain is completed as it runs on the same server and currently occupies the resources.
In addition, I've currently got problems, importing osm data into the database...

Okay, so we should continue to nag the core devs about incorporating it to terrasync?

I made a ticket: https://sourceforge.net/p/flightgear/codetickets/2329/
We should upvote this!

Nagging will not help as long as nobody does any work on it. This work can also be "project" management, so there is no coding experience required. You could for instance coordinate the work by writing a wiki article and track the progress. What I take there is still no consensus how it is to be done. Be part of the solution!

I would love to help. As far as i did understand from this thread, this is already addressed:

merspieler wrote:
What is the current stumbling block, what needs to happen?

The core guys need to have the code in place and start pulling the scenery into terrasync. Nothing I can do there.

But maybe, merspieler, you can elaborate in more detail:
- do the devs already know, what needs to be done?
- where is the information for that?
- What needs to be done (technically, in more details)?

They do
- where is the information for that?

On the mailing list
- What needs to be done (technically, in more details)?

* Agree upon the way to distribute the scenery (current terrasync mirrors vs own set of mirrors and via terrasync vs other program just for it)
* The scenery has to be downloaded from my site and need to be packaged according to the defined structure.
* Added to the terrasync mirror or deployed on another set of mirrors.

Note that there has as well been discussions about the upcoming ws3.0 build as that faces similar issues as the osm2city scenery.

Sure...
https://sourceforge.net/p/flightgear/ma ... ear-devel/
Unfortunately, sourceaforge doesn't display the entire thread correctly...
The thread is called `osm2city scenery distribution`

To stay up-to-date, you can subscribe to the mailing list here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/flight ... gear-devel

At least for this run, it's too late. I don't plan on pulling any new osm data in , until this build is done.

For updates I've got some ideas tho... So start mapping ;-)

Lil update:
Started running the build again. For now just with a few threads as the australia build is still on the home stretch and the database import still running.
Before the build continues in europe, it will go over other parts where there were issues which have now been fixed (hopefully)...
