Easter Island & Mataveri Airport

Postby Picun_1812 » Mon Apr 01, 2019 3:06 pm

Hi all!

I have a great interest in contributing in parts of my country's scenario, but I think I do not have the programming knowledge necessary to do so.

I would like very much that the airport of Mataveri SCIP, and the whole island could have a more realistic landscape and objects. Currently it is just a piece of map with the shape of the island.
The ILS glide slope is displaced from the runway axis and the terrain does not come very close to the island's own cliffs.

I think it's an airport worth improving. Rapa Nui is the land point farthest from any continent in the world and receives daily up to 4 flights that cross the entire Pacific Ocean. This small point of land was also of vital importance for NASA and its space missions, helping directly in its construction.

How could that improve?

And it's a Shuttle TAL site for Vandenberg launches - we space pilot visit it now and then  It's a challenge to get the Shuttle onto that runway, but it definitely is possible.

This could be interesting for the new cliff shader - once its commited to FGDATA maybe I'll take a look.

Or does someone already have a custom scenery?

Not only cliffs shader, this island need OSM buildings, roads and better landclases, there are some forests too.

@Picun_1812,

If you would like to learn how to build scenery (which does not require programming skill) just ask and I'm sure you will get some helpful advice.
Seems @legoboyvdlp and @Thorsten have some interest already in this location.

Thanks, D-ECHO! I would appreciate!! Just as you have helped in improving scenarios that I mentioned before.

Anyway I would like to learn how to edit the terrain and add objects. I have read a lot about it and I still can not understand how to use UFO or TerraGear. Learning it alone is really difficult, both for the language and for the knowledge in programming.

I keep working! :)

@Picun_1812,

Starting by learning to place objects with the UFO is a good place to start.

Read up on the UFO...
http://wiki.flightgear.org/UFO_from_the_%27White_Project%27_of_the_UNESCO
http://wiki.flightgear.org/Howto:Place_3D_objects_with_the_UFO

Quick guide:
Fly the UFO close to the area you want to place an object
press = key to open the adjustment dialog
Load an object
press spacebar to open the object selector
This will open a dialog browsing your fgdata/Models folder... not many objects to choose from
press the L key to open the object selector
This will open a dialog and allow you to choose any model from any folder.
e.g. Choose TerraSync/Models/Airports/aircraft_stairs.ac... many more models to choose from
click the surface where you want to place the object
adjust the position using the adjust model dialog ('=' key)
Capture the changes
    Press the d key
    Look at your terminal window
    You will see
      w100n30/w091n35/1466187.stg
      OBJECT_SHARED TerraSync/Models/Airport/aircraft_stairs.ac -90.05295033 35.20159723 67.1279 0.0 0.0 -0.0
The first line is the Terrain file that needs to be modified
The second line needs to be added to this file to make the changes permanent

NOTE: If you have TerraSync turned on, then your changes will be lost. To prevent this, make your changes to a custom scenery folder and specify this folder in the launcher.

Good luck. If you continue to have trouble, please share with us what isn't working as expected.

When you get this far:
OBJECT_SHARED TerraSync/Models/Airport/aircraft_stairs.ac -90.05295033 35.20159723 67.1279 0.0 0.0 -0.0

That Line can be input to TerraSync using the input forms. That way they will be available to all TerraSync users.

Terrasync mass import doesn't support manual elevation from stg file. Import algorithm recalculates elevation of all objects automaticaly, what can lead to undesired effects. There is not way how to automaticaly calculate elevation offset. That mass import should be reworked to accept objects elevation. In other cases attempt to mass import dumped UFO data is wasting of the time with this result :

With custom stg file created with UFO dump is all OK :

After extremly time consumpting terrasync manual elevation offset update is all OK.

Perfect job, 100x better than default. I will make some airport layout from standard shared models as soon as possible.

Now it's Easter Island, thank you very much D-ECHO!!

Lately I have learned to put objects on the stage with UFO; however, I have been able to place objects in different places without problems, except in SCOH, I add the objects in the STG file indicated in the console, but I can not make them appear in the map.

I have seen that the package that you have created for SCOH, does not include the folder that UFO asks me to modify to save the changes. It does not seem to make sense What could I be doing wrong?
