My layout combined with OSM buildings from http://media.lug-marl.de/flightgear/lirf.tgz :

As You can see, unified layout needs some tuning and after that will be far better than empty place. For me, it is OK and don't know do it better.

I will finish the tower soon. Then I will have only to make textures for some other objects.

I removed unnecessary objects and all roads. Next step - jetways.

Imo you should leave the roads. After all, they can easily be toggled on or off and improve the scenery a lot.

I think we should leave roads, the airport looks more realistic. I want also improve roads because LIRF has a nice connections whit the terminals. In FlightGear is difficult to replicate that but we will try.

Congratulation on your very nice job! It has been quite a long time I did not login to the forum and I am glad I found this thread about LIRF upgrade!
I am currently involved, together with @D-ECHO and others, to the upgrade of LIRZ-Perugia, LIAF-Foligno and other airports of central Italy, so I am very glad to see a new Italian airport (and the most important one, it should be added) is getting this wonderful update.
Very good job!
I am going to download your current job and add to my custom scenery folder. Thank you!

In the images before, there is LIRF made whit only default flightgear scenery objects. We are developing better 3d models in order to give more realism to LIRF.
If you want to help you are welcome!
Thanks
