terrasync.py most of the time but also TerraMaster as well as TerraSync internal to FG...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

I don't know how to configure for terrasync.py, I don't use TerraSync internal to FG, as i find it is PAINFULLY slow, most of the time I struggle to get download speeds in Kbs sometimes (only sometimes) for a few seconds this might increase to 12 Mb! In logging it says it "Failed to sync taking too long" FYI it has nothing to do with my broadband as I have fibre and my download speed is 38-54 Mbps, and upload is 8-15Mbps so it isn't a speed issue with the connection. So I have gone across to Keith's Terramaster, which I have 95% of the whole world tiles downloaded, and I update these about every 30 days, and have had no problem with this program since I started using it some 12 months ago Well done Keith keep up your stirling work :P :P :P )

I use both Terrasync and the updated Terramaster, but I voted Terrasync because I use it mainly.

I don't know how to configure for terrasync.py,

there's really nothing to configure... there isn't even a configuration file... it is all command driven python code...my most common command line is
Code: Select all
RUNCMD=/home/myuser/flightgear-dev/next/flightgear/scripts/python/TerraSync/terrasync.py --target=/home/myuser/myflightgear/TSScenery --remove-orphan --quick

it keeps my TSScenery directory updated... this is the same directory i have my FG looking to for its scenery as well as its internal TerraSync if i turn it on...

so basically, we point it to the directory where our scenery is installed... we ask it to remove orphan files that are not listed in the repository and to run in "quick" mode as opposed to "check every directory" mode...

PS: i definitely have a script so i don't have to type out that long path ;)

The question is wrong - it should be "what program do you use to download scenery."

Like wkitty I use terrasync.py for scenery download. Being a Windows user who no longer is used to remembering and typing long winded commands to python scripts I run it with a single click from a .bat file

For scenery generation I use Terragear and WED amongst other tools.

Below is my batch file. It will need to be editted to suit your needs.
Code: Select all
rem see http://wiki.flightgear.org/TerraSync for useage

rem  fetch everything from the master repository server into H:\terrasync, keep orphan files, (re-)download every .dirindex file
rem terrasync.py -t H:\scenery --url=http://ns334561.ip-5-196-65.eu:8888/trunk/data/Scenery/
rem terrasync.py -t H:\terrasync2 --url=http://ns334561.ip-5-196-65.eu/WS2.0/terrasync_html/
rem just pull in changes, quick and lean for subsequent updates
terrasync.py -t H:\terrasync --quick --url=http://ns334561.ip-5-196-65.eu/WS2.0/terrasync_html/

rem  run a mirror, only keep those files listed on the server
rem terrasync.py -t H:\terrasync --quick  --remove-orphan

rem use another server to pull the data, not the sourceforge master
rem terrasync.py --target=H:\terrasync --url= http://someserver.org/otherscenery

pause

The .bat file lives in flightgear/scripts/python/Terrasync. I have named it RunTerrasync.bat.
You will need to change the directory H:|terrasync, to somewhere that exists on your computer.
Also the url may not be the best one for your location. Look up the list of terrasync servers.
The first time you run it the whole master repo will be downloaded. Dependant on your internet connection this could take several days. To do this remove the "rem" at the start of the first line, and insert a "rem" statement at the start of line 4.
Terrasync.py has been updated since I wrote the .bat file. See the code for new options, which I believe allow you to just download sections of the world.
