Default scenery question

Postby statto » Sat Dec 16, 2017 6:54 pm

New laptop, decided to download FlightGear onto my Ubuntu box and simply typed in :~$ fgfs and went without any further modifications to see what the default flightgear was now. Flew the Cessna 172 from KSFO to Palo Alto.

Noticed the scenery around KSFO was much better than it used to be: does anyone know where/when this scenery was generated, and from what source?

Actually, the default scenery for the last couple of releases has not been at KSFO, so you don't seem to have anything even remotely up to date (?)

There's a hires KSFO Martin Spott had created at some point which was released with the installer but never on terrasync - presumably that's what it is.

That's what it would have been. I'm running the vanilla version that came with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, so that probably explains the discrepancy.

Thank you.

yes, it absolutely does... i don't know of the PPA is compiling properly again or not but that's where to get the latest FG for ubuntu installations...

the maintainer is also a member here and is easily contacted via PM in these forums...

FWIW: one can always look at the F10->Help->About box when in the sim ;)
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."
