newbie questions

Postby bob755 » Tue Nov 28, 2017 1:00 pm

Hello,

I've been reading the various pages on how to add objects to scenery and experimenting using the ufo etc. I can add buildings by adding them to the .stg file and they show up but I have some questions:

- Where are the existing buildings for an airport stored? The airport I've been experimenting with has several jetways but I don't see these defined in the .stg file.
- There is an xml file reference for a windsock in the .stg but I don't see any object at the airport. I understood that the xml files are for animation but shouldn't there be a corresponding .ac?
Code: Select all
OBJECT_SHARED Models/Airport/windsock_lit.xml 3.977016 43.572953 -0.2 0.00

Thanks

on the windsock, that xml is distributed via terrasync... the ac file is in the same directory as the given xml... there's also a png that goes with it... since these files are distributed via terrasync, you need to ensure that your scenery is properly updated via the built-in terrasync or using an external scenery updater like terramaster or terrasync.py...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

I downloaded the scenery using Terramaster so I suppose that these are the same files as using Terrasync.

My downloaded scenery is stored in a separate folder FGCustomScenery, and this folder is specified in the Additional Scenery Locations in the launcher.
The airport in question is LFMT located in the tile e003n43.
The scenery is present when I go to the LFMT in FG. i.e. I'm not in the ocean but there are not buidings or objects such as wind socks.

When I use the UFO at LFMT and press D, it gives e000n40/e003n43/3006819.stg

The file 3006819.stg is in my custom scenery folders FGCustomScenery\Terrain\e000n40\e003n43 and FGCustomScenery\Objects\e000n40\e003n43 and the latter contains lots of references such as
OBJECT_SHARED Models/Airport/Hangar_Cargo.ac 3.9565185 43.5803374 2.63 56

but these .ac files are not in my custom scenery folder so the airport is missing objects. These files are however in the FG scenery folder
Also the folder FGCustomScenery\Airports\L\F\M doesn't exist in the custom scenery folder.

What's going wrong?

Have you selected Objects in Terramaster? Not sure if it is selected by default

Yes Objects is selected.
It appears that it is missing the Models folder which is in th FG folder data/Models but not in the custom scenery folder. This folder contains all the missing .ac files

Why are there two .stg file? One in Objects\e000n40\e003n43 and one in Terrain\e000n40\e003n43

The solution seems to be to copy the Models folder from FG to the custom scenery folder. When I did that I see all the objects such as teminals, static aircraft etc.

I had another look at the code. The Models are downloaded by pressing the button with the building. Should work

because one contains the objects in the tile and the other contains the land mass in the tile... objects can be anything from power towers, to buildings, or even static things like animals or vehicles... the stuff in the Terrain directory is for drawing the actual terrain...
