You are perfectly right in the context of optimum converter scripting.
My view was, that ac format is used by FG and I never heard of it in other context.
So AC3D to me was a nice editor to manipulate FG models and from that point of view, features which are not used by FG don't make any sense to me.

I just now tried to cut out the elevators. It turned out to take a little bit more than just draw a poly with surface grease pencil, extrude it and knife project. Some of the stuff hanging on the side should move with the elevator I think, and other things should not. So I kinda failed. :|

Anyways, I looked at the hidden objects, and they seem to be relics from modeling, so I think it would be safe, to export it without them. I can make an AC model without them if you want?

Hello Necolatis

Thanks for your efforts.
Meanwhile I made some good progress in animating the future "Harry S. Truman" with
- scenario copied from Vinson, and cat-x parkpos adpated
- steam working for all 4 cats
- wires added from vinson
- radar rotating
- lights and flags from Nimitz/Vinson in Beta state

As for me I don't need a new export, as I can handle the ac file quite well.
I "moved" the model, so it sits in an "as close as possible" position to where Vinson, Nimitz and Eisenhower are.
The models are very similar in size and positioning, but in details the differences are up to 3m and it takes quite some effort to fine adjust
things like cat position, steam effect, etc.

I found that for the antennas in the island Vinson, in some aspects, is even better than the new model.

A problem which stopped me for some time is, that I had to dump FG 2017.1.2. It takes endless time in loading, I ended up with aircraft without gear, etc.
I don't get error messages but also no useful result.
I have no idea what the problems might be, but I went back to 2016.1.1 and there everything works like a charm.

@karla: I'm waiting for the textures of CVN-75 and will keep posting as soon as progress happens.

Okay, I dont know if your old AC3D did load those hidden objects in or if it skipped them.

They should probably be deleted if they got loaded, here is the list:

BlastDef02-01
BlastDef11-01
BlastDef12-01

meatball_yellow

Hello again

A short status on progress:
I was not successful in cutting out the elevators either. As the lower deck is not complete I decided to stop activities on Nimitz HD.
What I am doing now is recycle as much as possible to improve the existing Vinson.

Up to now I ported the flightdeck texture, which needed quite a lot of fine tuning so it fits to the vinson geometry.
I migrated the detailed equiment at the rear end and improved Vinson textures on the island a little, as the island of vinson is at least as well done.
3D crew is adapted.
I replaced the life rafts of Vinson with the detailed ones of the Nimitz HD.

EDIT: My problems with FG 2017 are resolved. It was the silly "start paused" option I had set and forgotten about.
I could see no hint that the system is started paused and it behaved rather inconsistent. Took me two weeks before I found
out accidentally about the "paused" startup mode. Don't know who needs this. It is a real trap.

Hi, when working with blender I found a few shortcuts and made a short video for getting the origins and axis of animated parts a bit easier. It makes animating things in FG work a bit better.

My video

I highly recommend BlenderGuru's (AndrewPPrice) blender tutorial videos. Also the PAF team has a blender tool to make all animations in blender and export/save an XML file for use in FG. All instructions are in French but if you use google translate you can figure out most things.

PAF Teams Video

the python code/plugin is available on the PAF teams sf.net page. A few things to note are that the AC3D export script might interfere with the one Necolatis maintains, Use Necolatis's script since it is current. the fg2blender plugin for animations is here on sf.net.

Nice video @japreja, I could have used that about 30,000 lines of code ago!

Just a quick observation. Instead of using all the vertex "points" to find "center of origin" and rotation points. I use the edge which is less clicks. For example, the two inside edges of the switch handle selected and then "cursor to selected" accomplishes the same thing with a couple less clicks. It adds up after doing it a few hundred times. Sometimes instead of using the object to be rotated I also use a part of the mesh it is rotating around to get an origin. Whatever is easiest at the time.

What I haven't taken the time to learn how to use yet is the python to animation plug-in. I would imagine that is a real time saver. Do you know off hand what type of animations it creates?

I've played around with it a few times but have yet to translate the documentation using google translate. The PAF Team has their own forum which is all french, it is a slight communications barrier but they may be able to offer more insight than I can. They have some old tutorials, I went ahead and used google translate to paste their forum link into, here is the script tutorial.

RunVideoRun has some youtube videos but there is no audio.

Yes, those screen shots are stunning in their realism.

start in air folks might need it... especially if they go to refresh their beverage while the sim loads ;)
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Hello again

Status Truman CVN-75 port (was Nimitz):

    - First successful cat-1 start (F14) incl. steam animation unlocked and locked state
    - First successful landing (F14), wires work

EDIT:
Any suggestions, where to place the scenario ?
I would use the full Vinson scenario with H-60 heli and ship escort, maybe without the cruising ship ;-)

Either off the coast of San Diego, Hawaii or somewhere in the Persian Gulf.
