YWLM - Newcastle Airpot/RAAF Williamtown

Postby Figaro » Sun Dec 09, 2012 8:17 am

Over the past few days, among other things, I modeled the two major civilian buildings at YWLM. Williamtown Airport is a split military/civilian airport with military operations run by the Royal Australian Air Force conducted on the northern side (north of the runway) and commercial operations run on the southern side (south of the runway)

Airlines that serve the airport include:
Jetstar Airways to Melbourne, Brisbane and Coolangatta/Gold Coast (YMML, YBBN and YBCG)
Virgin Australia to Melbourne (YMML)
Virgin Australia operated by Alliance Airlines to Brisbane (YBBN)
Qantas operated by QantasLink to Brisbane (YBBN)
Regional Express to Sydney and Balinna (YSSY and YBNA)
Aeropelican to Sydney (YSSY)
Brindabella Airlines to Canberra (YSCB)

The buildings I've modeled until now are the airports terminal and Jetstar Airways' A320 heavy maintainence facility. I'm thinking for buildings on the military side I could just use mainly generic objects for the most part, with some custom created objects for landmarks (like the Fighter World Museum)

A comparison between day and night textures (screenshots taken at times: Morning and just after Dusk):

The real thing:

I've a "complete" 850 airport layout that I will need a Terrorgear expert to generate for.

You will need the scenery tile e150s40 prior to installation.
The airport is available here for Windows Users (easy to install, self extracting .exe file, just point it at your FGDATA/Scenery folder)
The airport is available here for Linux and Mac Users (a "regular" mode of installation. non-self extracting .tar.gz file. Then move the files to your FGDATA/Scenery folder)

CHANGELOG
Version 1.0
- models created for terminal and Jetstar Maintainence facility.
- model created for Air Traffic Control Tower

Version 1.1
- several shared models placed. (fuel tanks, lights, hangars)
- Jetstar A321, REx (Regional Express) Saab 340 and QantasLink 717 placed as commercial traffic at terminal
- glideslopes for both ends of the runway

I hope you enjoy.

Cheers,
Sam.

OT: That concrete pad seems built for that Antonov, as it fits it so well, though I know it can't be so.

I'm not sure if it was specifically built for the Antonov. I personally have only ever seen the Norfolk Air 737-300s parked there.

Cheers,
Sam.

Had a little look around with some mates...
From the tower:

My mate brang a camera and was sitting in the back taking a few shots, not many people around!

Loved the red shine on the prop:

Pity I had such a low fps...

hmmm, well the lag was probably created by the overcast sky in combination with the fairly dense vegetation. YWLM is pretty framerate friendly. It only lags (for me) when panning to view the objects for the first time, or when changing day textures to night textures. Glad you liked it, however.

Cheers,
Sam.

I have just seen your video. It seems to that the light at ground is still solid. Your air plane lift up and down. Do you used the "enable-hot" animation? Apart from that a very good work, very nice models too.
