Airport Textures...

Postby LukeaFG » Wed Jul 18, 2012 7:45 pm

Hello :) today I was editing the airport textures and I was wondering if these textures in the screenshots look 'stupid' and if they don't what could I do to improve them?

Also I fixed the the issue at the end of the runway :D
I tried making some skid marks effects but then realized it would be on every airport in fg, is there any way to have less skid marks in places by editing the materials.xml or something like that?

Please ignore the taxiways in that image

Yeah they do look a bit better than the standard airport textures seen here:

Actually, taking a look at x-plane airports and airports in real life, the twy's are actually darker: http://mpmap01.flightgear.org/?ll=37.61 ... ode=normal

Okay here are some more screenshots with some tire marks added to the taxiways:

The runways in flightgear seem to be as dark as the real life taxiways so maybe increase the runway brightness and add some skidmarks or at least darken down the centerline a bit?
Btw what do you think of the tire marks on the taxiways, maybe add a bit more or is that fine?

The taxiways look great! I wonder are they compatible with the wet surface shaders?

I should still have the Inkscape svg file I used for the tiled effect somewhere, If it's any use to you I can dig it out.

Okay :D
@Sealbhach: hmmm they should be, all I edited was the texture itself, no xml or anything like.

Looks great! but please in your next screenshots enable the skydome shader and turn on some nice weather scenario (warmfront is very nice!), it makes the screenshots look a lot better

Here's the svg file, I've included the original pc_tiedown.png in the base layer, the tiles I added are on the layers above that.

Personally I prefer the lighter one. Flightgear can be quite dark as it is.
