Something funny happens with some of the last models submitted to the scenery database. I cannot use the 3D preview in WebGL for these models:

http://scenemodels.flightgear.org/modelview.php?id=3769
http://scenemodels.flightgear.org/modelview.php?id=3768

I've tested the other recently updated models (about 10 of them) and they are shown as expected. If I download these two models, they show perfectly in osgviewer.

OS: Debian Linux
Browser: Firefox 26 and Google Chrome 32
Error: In firefox, the model is not shown and the page hangs forever. Chrome shows the message "a script is making this page very slow" and finally crashes.

I noticed these models input stopped the scenery automatic checking script when I was validating them. I think it may be the hyphens in the model names.

In order to check them manually, I download each model and test it in my FG before I accept it for the data base.

If this happens again, perhaps I will email Christian and ask him not to use the hyphens.

Cheers,

Hi Ludomotico, Hi Vic,

Some models of Christian Thiriot I also can't see in 3D Preview, the screen freezes and I have to close the window.

Hi everyone.

I would like to ask something... How to edit /change the overall layout of the airport? I want to do this on my home airport,LQBK. In real the airport looks like this:

http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app ... 18841&st=0

http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app ... 18841&st=0

http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app ... 18841&st=0

http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app ... 18841&st=0

In FlightGear, all of this is just a grass field with something like an airstrip. So my question is,how to change that? I just can't stand to see my home airport like that. I will say again, the airport is already in FG but it's faaaar away from the airport on the pics.

Thanks everyone.

Cheers

This is a bit off topic as the topic is about the scenery objects (for example buildings radio masts in the scenery), but I answer here anyway.

It is a bit of work, even more so if you want to see it within a month, as you then would have to regenerate the scenery tile with the airport.

FlightGear uses the same airport data as X-Plane does. The difference is that while X-Plane drapes the airport layout over the terrain, while FlightGear must have the scenery regenerated using external tools in order to use the new layout.

To edit the airport layout you use WED (World EDitor), developed in the X-Plane community, and for scenery generation you use the TerraGear tool chain or the much simpler TerraGUI. To edit the ground networks used for starting positions (other than the runway threshold) and for and AI taxi and pushback routes, you will have to use TaxiDraw.

The new layout should be sent off to the maintainer of X-Planes airport and navigation data, and will in that way appear in FlightGear later on, when the TerraSync Scenery is regenerated (unless you create custom scenery yourself using TerraGear).

EDIT: While factually correct, disregard the above.

Having looked at the airport in the new TerraSync Scenery I think I quite misunderstood you. I guess you want to add buildings etc. to the airport. In that case you are at the right spot and on topic. :D

Fortunately, these changes can be done a lot easier that the above mentioned, and you will see the changes a lot sooner. :D

Adding buildings is actually rather easy these days, and they will be available in TerraSync usually well within two weeks. The tools you use is the UFO which is capable of placing shared objects as well as custom buildings (which can be created using for example Sketchup or Blender). Using the UFO you can dump the positions to FlightGear's log file and you can then add them to the scenery object database using web forms.

The trickiest part for me when I tried a couple of years ago it was to figure out how to dump the positions and how to add them to the web forms.

The scenery team is doing a fantastic work. Currently, the process of verifying and making buildings available in terrasync takes less than two days.

and how to add them to the web forms.

Copy and paste in "contribute->massive import of objects"

The most difficult thing is selecting the models, especially since the models you can place using the UFO are a small subset of all the available models: the UFO reads models only from FGROOT/Models and not from TERRASYNC/Models, which contents many interesting models. In Linux you can symlink a directory into the other. I don't know how to to this in Windows.

Johan G

You were right first time. The LQBK airport is just a runway and something like a taxi way ,parallel to it. So I want to change that,to make it look like the ones in the X-Plane.

Since my PC is hardly able to run the airport scenery full of different models and buildings ,I'm not really interested in that.

The main thing I want to do is to edit the current layout of this airport,LQBK. To change the taxi ways and to add that big parking space.

Thanks

One more thing ,and this is huge one...

I was thinking about it lately so maybe it's a good idea. In some other sims, like FSX and X-Plane ,you don't have to download the area of a few countrys ,just to have one airport you want. Meaning ,that it's possible to download the area of the airport only. So,is it possible to have that in FG? It would be really good if the download interface is like the existing graphical interface (10x10 download) . There's a lot of airports that I would like to have in FG but I don't want to download something 150 mb to have just one airport.

Most of you will suggest the TerraSync...well not working on my PC,quite simply because it's way to week and slow for it. So I can't run FG 3.0 or something like it.

Cheers

Oh, I guess it looks much better in the new scenery. I have not seen the old scenery in that area.

I have never been able to use TerraSync while flying, so what I have done was to use the "Prefetch" button in FGRun of FlightGear 2.4.0. With 3.0 I have to start at an airport and wait for the download, then disable TerraSync in Menu > Scenery Download. The area around Banja Luka for example was four 1 x 1 degree tiles. When downloading larger areas I use TerraMaster, but it is a bit difficult to download a particular tile unless you check up coordinates. Unfortunately, the new terrain have been reported to cause crashes on older versions of FlightGear.

X-Plane and FlightGear use exactly the same data for airport layouts. This means: if it is in a recent version of X-Plane, then it is in a recent version of FligthGear.

This is the aspect of LQBK in terrasync (this airport would look better with regional textures for the grey zones):

Image

This is a snapshot of the last scenery available for FligthGear, but you want to create a layout for an old version of FligthGear/X-Plane. This is going to be difficult, since many of the tools for the old formats are not directly available any more. Check this wiki page: http://wiki.flightgear.org/TaxiDraw

Once you have drawn the layout, you have to build the scenery. This is going to be the most difficult thing since you have to get an old version of terragear. This involves cloning the current repository of terragear and checking-out a version of, I don't know, 2010 (just guessing here) You will need a significant coding experience to do this.

It is going to be much, much easier just switching to a recent version of FlightGear.

Meaning ,that it's possible to download the area of the airport only. So,is it possible to have that in FG?

Yes, it is possible. The scenery is internally organized in tiles of about 20x20km and you could download just one of these tiles. But the maintainers of the webpage decided that providing an interface for the tiles was difficult/time consuming/uninteresting, and they are only providing a way to download large sets of tiles. I understand perfectly their decision.

Custom sceneries only provide some tiles, the ones that are improved compared to terrasync. Hence, they provide only some tiles but assume that Terrasync is used in parallel. This is the case of the custom Spanish scenery, for example.

It's just one thing,I don't want scenery of Germany,I want LQBK.

You just want the airport layout, but placed in the old scenery? Ain't working that way... airport layouts and scenery need to be together, and if you think for 3 minutes how to place a runway correctly on a sloped elevation mesh, you can figure out why.

There currently seems to be some problems with scenemodels.flightgear.org. :(

While the page loads, it takes minutes instead of seconds, and no models seem to be shown.

Right, the database is down since yesterday. It's being looked at, so it should be back up as soon as possible (could still take some time though).

Yes it is. Unfortunately the servers are a few thousands kilometres from where the admin is, so we rely on kind third party people to work on it. While it is down, we are trying to find a powerful backup installation, but it's not easy , the amount of data to keep in sync is quite enormous.

Would adding the lines to add to the stg files help? If so, here is the work I have been doing on KAKR:
