Hi flyingfisch ,

If other FG users copy your additions and paste them into the relevant .stg files in their own FG, that is as far as your updates will go.

What you need to do is to keep a copy of the changes handy for when the scenery DB is available again. When that happens, you can input them through the 'Massive Import' form and they will be included in the DB.

That would then mean anyone who flies near those airports will get your added scenery objects downloaded via TerraSync.

You don't have to learn Blender - Google SketchUp is far easier to use. A lot of FG scenery models are made in SketchUp.

Cheers,

Vic

The web seems to be working again, but the thumbnails of the last models have disappeared.

Can we use the scenery webtools or this is a temporal server? I have some buildings to send in my local buffer ;)

Hi ludomotico,

Pleased to hear you have models ready to submit, but the scenery DB is still being worked on. I'm pretty sure the DB is 'Read only' at the present time.

One of the scenery team will announce (here) when it is safe to send in your models again.

Watch this space.

Isn't there a git repo or something that would let me do it without using the web interface?

Not for scenery.

What good reasons?

EDIT:

Taught myself blender today, made the airdock. I think it's pretty good for a first 3D model ever if I do say so myself. :D

EDIT2:
Some more blender modelling, now at KCAK:

Doesn't anyone have access to the main repos or is the web interface the only way anyone can add to it?

No

Yes

If you managed to learn Blender in a day, you must be a very clever person and will be an asset to FG.

Are the models you have done like the real buildings at the airport? We do try to make our scenery as accurately as we can.

Cheers,

Vic

Thank you. Yes, both buildings are the same as in real life. I know the airdock is correct because it is the right dimensions, and I have passed it IRL several times so I know what it looks like. The KCAK terminal is exactly the same as the Google Maps satellite imagery.

All models and geographic data are stored in a geographical database (PostGIS) with an export process to send the data to a svn server (could be a git one too).
Imagine all data is simply pushed to git, and that you have a brand new set of high resolution elevation data. How will you compute all new elevations?
If a shared model name changes, how do you update the data worldwide, etc...

OK. It looks like the DB is back in business.

You can start sending in your models.
