Lot of work going on behind the scenes, slowly knocking items off my never ending todo list.

Today I worked towards finishing the rewrite of my terrain export / import tools. Now can export any arbitrary region, at whatever sample resolution, to file name of your choice. Now uses a much simpler plain text format instead of xml, and with optimizations made to scenery queries in git it is lightning fast as well. What took 15-20 minutes (no joke) before, now exports in around 20 seconds, and have tested with exports of entire buckets in less than a minute even on my older pc. Tools still need work, but hoping to release them with the scenery or shortly thereafter. Still an enormous amount of work to go yet though, I don't even want to think about that..one step at a time. :P

Entire bucket (e011n47 3138121) into blender 2.49 and 2.6 respectively...

Achieved a milestone today, generating the entirety of Austria for the first time. Build went smoothly without any problems and finished in a bit under 7 hours. Still a long long way to go to achieve my ultimate goals for the project, but nice to know the foundation is now proven and working well so far.

Did notice though that the majority of the smaller Austrian airports are in need of some major love. Many are out of position, have wrong headings, etc..perhaps the 8.50 versions (if they exist) are more accurate, but I haven't looked closely yet and that will have issues of it's own I'm sure. Have my work cut out for me, with a few dozen airports in need of reworking...but we'll get there.

cheers!

P.S -- Austria and the Alps looks real nice in the new covers... ;)
P.P.S. -- Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! :D

It seems there is a lot of wed work to be done to get all Austrian airports in shape.
But the new updated 8.5 LOWI layout looks great and the buildings are getting slowly into the corrected positions.

Just in case you're not aware of this -- there's fgopt which reads an existing .stg and lets you adjust the objects positions. If you feel this is of any use for your work, it would probably increase my motivation for further development  BTW: stunning scenery!

Found some time to finish new layouts for LOKL and LOIJ, both of which were undeveloped and in incorrect positions.

LOIJ - as it sits in the default scenery.

LOIJ - with new 8.50 layout in my scenery.

LOKL - as it sits in default scenery...buried in the side of the mountain.

LOKL - with new 8.50 layout in my scenery.

You may notice there are some issues along the airport boundaries with 8.50 layouts, but remember that 8.50 is still quite new and under heavy development. I'm sure these issues will be fixed up as it work progresses.

Two down..many to go...

cheers!

Hi,

Congratulations for your work. Just a question, you are using XPlane tools to achieve this. Once done, do you also send your work to Robin Peel?

Thanks.

Yes, I am using WED to create the layouts, but no, I have not yet sent them to Robin Peel.

cheers

Yes but it would still be a nice airport to do, or are you SPECIFICALLY doing Austria?

thanks
